A REVIEW ON OBESITY COMPLICATIONS AND ITS MANAGEMENT
AbstractThe article focuses on the prevalence of obesity in India, increasing levels of childhood obesity, and the potential health hazards that result from obesity, thereby suggesting the necessary preventive measures and the prevailing natural and synthetic therapy that can help to cure the disease, thus spreading awareness about its severity and necessity for treatment. Obesity in India has reached epidemic proportions in the 21st century, with morbid obesity affecting 5% of the country’s population. About 3.4 million people die each year due to overweight and obesity. The numbers are only worsening with each passing year. Anti-obesity medication or weight loss drugs are pharmacological agents that reduce or control weight. These drugs alter one of the fundamental processes of the human body, weight regulation, by altering either appetite or absorption of calories. Thus proper preventive measures and medication can help in reducing the extent of the disease worldwide.
