PROTECTIVE EFFICACY OF THE EXTRACT OF VOLVARIELLA VOLVACEA (BULLIARD EX FRIES) SINGER. AGAINST CARBONTETRACHLORIDE INDUCED HEPATIC INJURY
AbstractCarbon tetrachloride is a xenobiotic that produces hepatotoxicity. Aqueous extract Volvariella volvacea (500, 1000 mg/kg, p.o) showed significant hepatoprotective activity against carbontetrachloride induced hepatotoxicity in rats by normalizing the levels of serum AST, ALT, ALP, LDH and total bilirubin. The extract improved the activity of Catalase (CAT), Superoxide dismutase (SOD), and hepatic glutathione (GSH) content and depleted the lipid peroxidation levels in a dose dependent manner. Silymarin was used as the standard drug.
