SYNTHESIS, SPECTROSCOPIC CHARACTERIZATION AND EVALUATION OF ANTI-TUMOR PROPERTIES OF NOVEL FATTYACID CONJUGATES OF 2, 4 AND 2, 6-DIISOPROPYLPHENOL
AbstractThe present study enumerates the synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, and evaluation of antitumor properties of esters of two fatty acids viz., 5-hexenoic acid and iso- ricinoleic acid with 2, 4- or 2, 6-diisopropylphenol (Propofol). Propofol is a potent intravenous hypnotic agent which is widely used for the induction and maintenance of anesthesia and for sedation in the intensive care unit. Propofol also possess anti-cancer properties in addition to its sedative effects. Cytotoxicity of all the synthesized compounds was examined against a panel of four human solid tumor cell lines, SK-MEL, KB, BT-549, SK-OV-3, and one human leukemia cell line, HL-60. To compare their tumor selectivity over normal cell lines, VERO cells were also included. The results indicate that these novel conjugates might represent a new class of anti-tumor agents that possess selectivity toward cancer cells over normal cells.
