OPTIMIZATION OF PROCESS PARAMETERS FOR IMPROVED PRODUCTION OF BIO-ACTIVE METABOLITES BY ENDOPHYTIC FUNGUS CLADOSPORIUM CLADOSPORIOIDES ISOLATED FROM MANGROVE PLANT LUMNITZERA RACEMOSA LINN.
AbstractA study has been undertaken with an aim to isolate potent endophytic fungi from mangrove plant Lumnitzera racemosa Linn. Among the 10 different fungal strains isolated, one potent strain with broad-spectrum antagonistic activity was found. Basing on the morphological, cultural and molecular characteristics, the potent fungal strain was identified as Cladosporium cladosporioides. Production of bioactive metabolites by the strain was high in Malt Extract Broth compared to other media tested. The culture utilized Mannitol and Beef extract as good carbon and Nitrogen sources for the elaboration of bioactive metabolites. The optimum pH and Temperature for bioactive metabolite production of the strain were recorded at 4.0 and 30 °C. The secondary metabolites produced by the strain grown under optimal conditions exhibited high antagonistic activity against gram-positive as well as Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. This is the first report of Cladosporium cladosporioides from mangrove plant Lumnitzera racemosa Linn.
