Food adulteration is an enduring concern to date, and its detection and food authentication are some of the major approaches which can eradicate adulteration. This article reviews modern analytical techniques which are currently used for optimization and identification of adulterants. The Analytical techniques reviewed are distributed in three sections- Computer vision, Spectral and spectral Imaging techniques, and Electrical Techniques. Computer vision is a very advanced technique, allowing the analysis of several parameters with accurate and precise results. The hazardous effect of adulteration and future challenges and impacts are briefly discussed. The Previous decade is considered to be a massive success for food adulterant detection as it involved a chemometrics study. The use of chemometrics with analytical techniques is briefly discussed. Chemometrics is the science of extracting information from the chemical system by data-driven means. The inevitability of food in perspective to the current COVID-19 pandemic is very strong, and authenticated food is a prior...

In the last decades, diabetes has become one of the most prevalent health concerns worldwide. Diabetes is a metabolic disease that causes hyperglycemia and is associated with altered insulin production (type 1 diabetes) or with insulin-resistance (type 2 diabetes). The present work aims to point out the relevance of glipizide as an alternative treatment for type 2 diabetes and discuss the different delivery systems developed for this drug. With this in mind, we performed a nonsystematic search in different databases like PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct and the FDA’s and some other web pages, using key words as search criterion. Because glipizide is a drug with a short elimination half-life, a dosage of two to three tablets per day is needed, depending on the therapeutic requirements of each patient. The as aforementioned has led different research groups to develop new delivery systems for this drug; among them are nanoparticles, nanosuspensions, microspheres, self-emulsifying systems, matrix tablets, osmotic tablets, and gastroretentive systems. The developed systems have been aimed at reducing the...

Three-dimensional printing (3DP) is an emerging technology that allows the fabrication of tailor-made drugs, devices, and organs that meet an individual patient’s requirement. Thus, it has enormous potential to bring about a significant transformation in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector. 3DP involves the production of structures with desired design by deposition of printing material in a layer-by-layer fashion. It permits on-demand fabrication of structures with high productivity economically. Currently, it is employed in a wide range of healthcare services such as drug formulations, medical devices, anatomical models, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, engineered tissue models, and dentistry. The primary objective of this review to describe various approaches in personalized medicine, progress in dosage forms and devices, 3DP techniques, use of polymers in 3DP and adaptation of 3DP in pharmaceutical industries. We further describe recent approaches in the fabrication of conventional drug formulations and novel drug delivery systems and compare the 3DP with 3D bioprinting. Lastly, we discuss the limitations, regulatory aspects, and future trends of 3DP technology in the...

Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) is an essential drug of the Ayurvedic medicine system used in different Ayurvedic formulations to treat a variety of ailments. Guduchi is a member of the Menispermaceae family and is widely produced in tropical and sub-tropical countries such as India, Sri Lanka, China, Myanmar, Philippines, South Africa, Thailand, Bangladesh, and several south-east Asian continents such as Indonesia, Malaysia. All parts of Guduchi have nutritional value and medicinal importance, including the roots, stem, bark, and leaves. A different class of phytochemicals like alkaloids, glycosides, aliphatic compounds, diterpenoids, sesquiterpenoids, phenolic compounds, steroid and polysaccharides, etc., are found in Guduchi. Tinosporaside, tinosporine, magnosporine, berberine, choline, Jatrorrhizine, palmatine, beberine, giloin, giloinsterol, and other beneficial biomarkers are present in this herb. Guduchi is used to treat cold, fever, headache, jaundice, digestive disorder, among other things, and it shows several proven pharmacological activities such as anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, immunomodulatory activity, anti-toxic, hepatoprotective, anticancer, cardioprotective activity, radioprotective, antimicrobial, anti-stress, anti-HIV and many more. This review article majorly highlights the phytochemical present in Guduchi,...

Balashosha is a disease caused by nutritional deficiencies in which the body gets slowly emaciated. This condition is very much similar to malnutrition. It reduces the baby’s growth and increases the chances of having a low birth weight and later suffering from childhood infections and mortality. In Ayurveda, Balashosha is described as Apatarpana janya vyadhi and due to Rasavaha Shrotodusti, where Kaphadosha plays an important role in the pathogenesis. Aim: Aim of this article is to evaluate the efficacy of Chaturjatadi Sambharak in the management of Malnutrition (Balashosha). Materials and Methods: A literature review was conducted with the help of many important Ayurvedic and Modern textbooks, Research papers, Journals to collect information on the content of Chaturjatadi Sambharak, an Ayurveda drug indicated for Ajeerna(indigestion), Shvasa (dyspnoea), Kasa (cough), Sarvarognashaka (cures every disease), Balya (Strength promoting), Angavardhaka (Anabolic/growth-promoting) and Pushtikaraka (promoting nutrition) in children. Conclusion: This literary review article provides evidence regarding the immunomodulatory, antimicrobial, Antioxidant activity along with Deepana (appetizer), Pachana (digestive), Krimihara (antihelminthic), Brimhana (anabolic/ growth-promoting), and Rasayana...
