Microalgae biomass has been recognized to have great potential as a source of novel bioactive compounds with industrial as well as health promoting applications in human, animal and aquatic lives. Microalgae have been gaining attention continuously due to its bioactive compounds. These bioactive compounds are primary and secondary metabolites produced by microalgae in order to adopt adverse environmental conditions. The simple growth requirement, higher mass productivity in short harvesting time making microalgae promising over other natural source of bioactive compounds. Several species of microalgae have undergone various screenings to identify and tap into these valuable resources, among them are the Isochrysis galbana, a brown microalgae belonging the class haptophyta. It is widely used as a feed for marine organism in aquaculture because of its high lipid content. Recently it is found Isochrysis galbana also exhibited the potential of being a source of high-value compounds with distinct biological activities including antitumor, antibacterial, antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory and hypochloesteromic. These activities have a wide range of applications in various industries that have...

The drug delivery by oral route is so far most convenient and accepted route of drug delivery but now a days considerable interest has been increased in delivery of drugs through skin to the systemic circulation and for local effect. However, the outer most layer of the human skin, stratum corneum; possess the formidable barrier to drug penetration thereby reducing bio-availability. Most of the drugs do not have an ability to penetrate the stratum corneum. Owing to the side effects of chemical penetration enhancers interest has been aroused among researchers to find out natural sources as penetration enhancers to improve the bio-availability of drugs so that they can be delivered through skin. The current review aims to screen various natural sources of penetration enhancers for transdermal delivery of different drugs as they have minimum chances of side effects and have improved efficacy compared to chemical enhancers. Various natural derivatives have been proposed that could show potential penetration enhancing capacity with varied mechanism of penetration. Though a large number of...

Zika virus infection is caused by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, usually causing rash, mild fever, conjunctivitis, and muscle pain. First time the virus was isolated in 1947 in the Zika forest in Uganda. It is transmitted to people through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. Symptoms are similar to those of dengue and chikungunya, which are transmitted by the same type of mosquito. Autoimmune and Neurological complications are infrequent. Treatment consists of relieving pain, fever, and any other symptom that inconveniences the patient. To prevent dehydration, it is recommended to drink plenty of water, rest, and control the fever. Thus far, there is no vaccine for the virus. But since it is a self-remitting disease, a person can be hopeful of being cured within a week or two, and the treatment is usually symptomatic. This review covers about the Zika virus; epidemiology and guidelines issued by the health ministry for control and prevention of Zika...

Dietary nitrate has been demonstrated to have a range of beneficial vascular effects, including reducing blood pressure, reduction in pulse wave velocity, regulation of cerebral blood flow, enhancing exercise performance in healthy individuals, stimulating angiogenesis and vasculogenesis etc. Earlier studies with nitrate or nitrite also demonstrate the synergistic effects against ischaemia-reperfusion injury and reduce arterial stiffness, inflammation and intimal thickness. However, there is a need for scientific evidences for hard endpoints beyond epidemiological studies. Although studies have suggested reduction in cardiovascular risk and cancer with diets high in nitrate-rich vegetables but still a lot remains to be elucidated. Moreover various therapeutic effects have reported that the nitrate and nitrite have more affluent biological actions till now, and numerous attempts are currently ongoing for the consideration of potential useful effects in the clinical uses. Here we corroborated a brief data regarding clinical uses of nitrite and nitrate that may serve as potential therapeutic...

Oral modified or controlled dosage forms have always proven to be more effective alternative to conventional or immediate release dosage forms. Controlled or modified drug delivery systems offer numerous advantages of delivering a drug to the body in a précised manner with an aim to minimize its unwanted side effects and maximize its benefits. Targeted drug delivery systems target a particular site in the body to maximize the drug concentration in a specified tissue or organ of the body which improves therapeutic efficacy of the drug, decrease toxicity and with better patient compliance and convenience. In past few decades, microspheres have promised targeted or controlled delivery of drugs in the body which has proved to be better than the conventional drug delivery. Recently microspheres have been used to deliver drugs, vaccines, antibiotics and hormones in a controlled manner. The present study aims to review different aspects of the microparticulate drug delivery system along with types of microspheres, methods of preparation and different applications as targeted or controlled drug delivery...
