Wattakaka volubilis (L. f) Stapf, belonging to the family of Asclepiadaceae, has a history of use in traditional medicine in numerous countries. Traditionally the plant has been used for the treatment of diabetes, eye infections, snake bites, boils, skin problems, jaundice etc. A tribal community called Kurinjan has been using this plant to reduce blood glucose level. This plant is a tall woody climber with ash-colored older branches and green or yellowish green flowers that fall in umbellate cymes. The review demonstrates that the plant has a large number of phytochemical elements with activities such as Anti-diabetic, Antioxidant, Anti-inflammatory, Analgesic, Antipyretic, Anti-tumour, Antimicrobial etc. The phytochemicals present are Alkaloids, Flavanoids, Tannins, Glycosides, Anthocyanidins. Phytochemicals such as Drevogenin, Delphinidine, Dregein, Dregeosides have been isolated from various parts of the plant. These findings are quite encouraging and suggest that this herb be researched further to validate these findings and uncover other possible therapeutic properties. Furthermore, the active chemical constituents of Wattakakka volubilis with significant pharmacological values must be isolated and...

Periodontitis is a multifactorial disease. It has several associations with hormonal fluctuations; the body undergoes several physiological hormonal mechanisms. In several physiological conditions, hormonal fluctuations have been observed. One such condition is pregnancy. Several hormones are at play during pregnancy; one such hormone is PTH. Parathyroid hormone is essential to increase the maternal absorption of calcium during gestation and has been observed to have a direct effect on the Periodontium. Pregnancy confers detrimental changes to the periodontal tissues in expectant mothers. In this article, we would focus on the periodontal health seen among pregnant women and how the parathyroid hormone levels vary in pregnancy in contrast to its normal mechanism. A lacuna in the literature exists, preventing us from forming an association between the varying parathyroid levels and the periodontal health status of pregnant women observed longitudinally through their pregnancies. Through this article, we aim to bridge that...

Curcumin is a highly potent, nontoxic, bioactive agent found in turmeric and has been known for centuries as a household remedy to many ailments. The main active ingredient of turmeric is curcumin, a polyphenol that helps prevent and control neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, metabolic, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases and some cancers. The major drawbacks of curcumin are low absorption and poor bioavailability. Curcumin nanoparticles possess remarkable antibacterial, antiviral and antiprotozoan activity. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the world and one of the significant public health problems. Despite the great advances in cancer therapy, cancer incidence and mortality rates remain high. This review mainly focuses on the preparation & methods of Curcumin nanoparticles and their applications. Therefore, the quest for more efficient and less toxic cancer treatment strategies is still at the forefront of current...

Quorum sensing is a peculiar mechanism of microbial communication through the induction of various signalling autoinducer molecules having several gene expression regulatory activities of different virulence factors that control microbial. This enables a systematic path of inhibiting microbial growth and its infection production efficacy by indirectly regulating the Quorum sensing activity of the concerned pathogens. As antimicrobial resistance directly impacts the healthcare system, hence is one of the biggest threats to global health. The attenuation or inactivation of these resistant variety bacteria is the utmost call of hour. In this panorama, interference/change in the chemical signal of QS system has been developed as an efficient technique to block their expression, hence enabling them as less virulent. A literature study was performed using online research, including database searches such as PubMed, SciELO, and SCOPUS between 2000-2020. This review aims to provide a brief mechanism of inhibition of microbial resistance through QS system by different...

Introduction: Long life, good health, and healthy development are all dependent on proper nutrition. Well-fed children do better in school, develop into healthy adults, and offer their children a better start in life. Undernutrition, on the other hand, remains a major issue, particularly among children who are deprived of adequate food in developing countries. Childhood undernutrition is an underlying cause of an estimated 35% of all deaths among children under five and 21% of total global disability-adjusted life years lost among less than 5 children. Pathological alterations in the body arise as a result of various diseases or excessive indulgence in factors leading to emaciation, resulting in the emergence of undernutrition. In such cases, Deepana–Pachana (appetizer and digestive) Brimhana (Increasing muscle bulk), and Rasayana (Rejuvenizing) therapy is needed. Methods: This review is conducted using a complete and organized search of the available literatures in Ayurveda texts and published articles. The searches were performed using various databases, including PubMed, Scopus, MedLine, Google Scholar, and others. The keywords used for the...
