The treatment of neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) becomes much more difficult due to the presence of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Various synthetic drugs are used for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, but the use of herbal products has increased tremendously nowadays. An important medicinal plant widely used therapeutically is Bacopa monnieri (Brahmi), a well-known nootropic herb of family Scrophulariaceae. The bacosides present in Brahmi aid in the repair of damaged neurons and ultimately improve nerve impulse transmission. However, the delivery of every such drug is limited due to the failure of the drug to overcome the blood-brain barrier and reach CNS. Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) are the drug carriers that have been able to penetrate the blood-brain barrier and improve the therapeutic efficacy of drugs. Atenolol is a hypertension drug that has a low solubility characteristic in water and gastric fluid. The rate of absorption of the drug with poor solubility characteristics is determined by the dissolution process. In this study, an attempt has been conducted to increase the dissolution of atenolol by increasing its solubility. The solubility of atenolol has been enhanced by the inclusion complex using β-cyclodextrin made by several methods (physical mixing, kneading, and solvent evaporation). Evaluation and characterization of atenolol-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex consist of drug content, dissolution test, Fourier Transformed Infrared analysis (FT-IR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The results of the drug content analysis, dissolution test, and characterization showed that atenolol- β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex, which has been made by the solvent evaporation method was the best approach. Objectives: To find out different qualitative and quantitative phytochemical properties, it’s in-vitro antioxidant properties and peroxidase activity of Brassica juncea var. Rugosa (record tro- 50197928) with fresh and sequential solvent extracts. Methods: The leaf sample of Brassica juncea var. rugosa was collected from Manipur and the sample was dried. The dried powder was extracted using Soxhlet with the sequential solvent of non-polar to polar. Preliminary phytochemical analysis for proteins, carbohydrates, phenols, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids, terpenoids, and quantitative estimation for total proteins, carbohydrates, alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, and tannins. In-vitro, antioxidant activity was analyzed by using DPPH assay. Peroxidase activity was also checked. Results: The plant extracts showed the presence of a considerable amount of total alkaloids, total phenols, total flavonoids, total tannins, total proteins, total carbohydrates. Plants have served as a source of new pharmaceutical products and inexpensive starting materials for the synthesis of some known drugs. Components with medicinal properties from plants play an important role in conventional Western medicine. In the ethnopharmacological approach, local knowledge about the potential uses of the plants is very useful as compared to the random approach where indigenous knowledge is not taken into consideration. In the present study, the polar (hydro-alcoholic, aqueous, methanolic and ethanolic) extracts and non-polar extracts (hexane, chloroform and petroleum ether) of whole plant, Hyptis suaveolens was screened for antimicrobial activity against drug-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus and other pathogenic strains (viz. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus cereus, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans). All the polar extracts of the plant showed significant antimicrobial activity in comparison to non-polar extracts.
