The main objective of the study is to develop gelucire 44/14 based lapatinib ditosylate (LPT) SNEDDS for the improvement of solubility and drug release. Pseudo tertiary phase diagram constructed for varying oil, surfactant, and co-surfactant combinations. Fifteen LPT SNEDDS formulations were prepared with anticipated component ratios (gelucire 44/14, peceol, and capmul MCM) based on monophasic region are subjected to thermodynamic physical stability test. Formulations that cleared stability tests were evaluated for % transmission, drug content, and in-vitro drug release analysis. The optimized formulation analyzed for particle size and zeta potential, followed by FTIR and SEM analysis. Formulation F13 with a maximum drug release of 98.96% in 60 min higher than 38.90±3.25% of pure drug is considered an optimized formulation. The average particle size and zeta potential of the F13 were 72.5 nm and -13.4 mV, respectively. The FTIR and SEM studies do not indicate any drug excipient interaction and confirm uniform drug distribution. The formulation subjected to accelerated stability study is proved to be stable over a period of...

Introduction: Reproductive organs are the major target of heavy metal toxicity; oxidative stress plays a vital role in induction of such toxicity. Toxicity due to chronic exposure to a low dose mixture of three heavy metal lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and arsenic (As) and ameliorative potentials of two antioxidant micronutrients selenium (Se) and zinc (Zn) were evaluated in male albino rats. Materials and Methods: The animals were divided into four equal groups: i) control, ii) metal mixture, iii) mixture plus Se and iv) mixture plus Zn treated groups; all animals received respective treatment for ninety consecutive days. Body weight, relative organ weights, haematological and serum biochemical parameters, sperm characteristics, Steroidogenic enzymes, serum testosterone level, oxidative stress parameter sand testicular histology were evaluated. Results: There were significant alterations in body weight, relative organ weight, hematological and serum biochemical parameters in mixture treated groups indicative of systemic toxicity. There was marked decline in male sexual parameters; changes in oxidative stress parameters revealed associated oxidative stress. Supplementation with both Se and Zn...

There is a paucity of data on studies evaluating trace elements and antioxidant levels and susceptibility of offspring of diabetic parents to type 2 diabetes in Nigerian population. This study evaluated the serum level of some trace elements and antioxidants among apparently healthy individuals with a family history of type2 diabetes mellitus (FH-T2DM). This was a cross-sectional study involving 122 Students (aged between 18-30 years) consisting of 60 apparently healthy subjects with FH-T2DM and 62 apparently healthy subjects without FH-T2DM. Serum levels of Cr, Zn, Se, and Mn and catalase and superoxide dismutase of these subjects were measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometric technique and spectrophotometric technique, respectively. The plasma glucose, body mass index (BMI), waist circumferences, and a waist-to-hip ratio of these subjects were also determined using standard methods. Results from this study showed that mean fasting plasma glucose level was significantly higher (p=0.001); serum levels of Cr was significantly lower (p=0.04) while serum levels of Zn, Mn, Se, SOD and Catalase did not differ significantly (p>0.05) in those...

Carissa carandas Linn. belonging to the family Apocynaceae, is an underutilized fruit plant. C. carandas has been used in many ethno medicines 6, 40, 30. Genetic diversity is a ubiquitous feature of all species in nature. ISSR markers are useful in areas of genetic diversity, phylogenetic studies, gene tagging, genome mapping, and evolutionary biology in a wide range of plant species 4, 12. In this investigation, 9 ISSR primers were used for fingerprinting of 9 different accessions of C. carandas grown in a different location. Of these 9 primers, the amplification of only 8 primers (4, 5, 6 and 7, HB10, HB12, HB13 and HB15) were satisfactory and reproducible. Results of the ISSR fingerprint showed 473 amplified fragments; 134 of them were polymorphic (28.33%). The sizes of the amplified fragments were ranged between 200 and 1700 bp in length. The primer HB-10 showed the highest polymorphism (46.67%), while primer 6 showed the lowest with only (8.70%). The results obtained in this study validate that ISSR is useful markers in...

Urolithiasis is the most prevalent urinary tract disorder in males. Alfuzosin is a selective antagonist of post-synaptic α1a adrenoceptor, causing relaxation of smooth muscle in the bladder and prostate, which results in an improvement of urine flow and prevents ureter stones. The present study was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Alfuzosin on rats as a preventive and curative agent against the development of urolithiasis. Urolithiasis was induced by oral administration of 0.75% v/v ethylene glycol and 2% w/v ammonium chloride in drinking water for 15 days in rats. Ethylene glycol feeding resulted in hyperoxaluria and a significant (p<0.001) increased in urinary calcium, phosphate, and serum creatinine, uric acid levels. By oral administration of Alfuzosin at the dose of 1 mg/kg and 2 mg/kg for 15 days as a preventive regimen and from 8th day to 15th day as a curative regimen, significantly (P<0.01) reduced the calcium, phosphate, creatinine and uric acid levels in rats. The histopathological studies showed the disrupted renal parenchyma, degenerative changes in glomeruli, calcification in...
