According to recent studies, the antioxidant related properties of Taxus baccata L. needle extracts are remarkable making it a possible raw material for the pharmaceutical industry, hence requiring the identification of major bioactive compounds and the assessment of the antioxidant properties of the extracts. The aim of this study was to investigate for the first time the individual flavonoids and the in vitro free radical scavenging activity of the methanol needle extracts from two Algerian Taxus baccata populations. The identification process was carried out using liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC–ESI–MS/MS). A total of twenty compounds have been characterized and identified. Some of which have never been previously reported in T. baccata L. The total flavonoid contents in Taxus baccata showed significant differences (p<0.05) according to the populations. Deoxycholic acid (DCA) is a secondary bile salt that is a major active constituent of Chinese traditional medicine, “Niuhuang” which is known to have immunoregulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. Although data from the literature indicate possible immunomodulatory effects of Deoxycholic acid on the immune system, little has been reported regarding the mode of activity of DCA in modulating the immune system. The objective in the present study was to determine the effect of Deoxycholic acid (DCA) on immune parameters in mice and rats. The current study employed both in-vitro and in-vivo protocols in mice and rats. In-vitro study results indicate that DCA causes splenocyte proliferation at lower doses but is cytotoxic to splenocytes at higher doses were observed in these supernatants that were sensitized with DCA versus splenocytes derived from control animals. Stability indicating method for determination of all seven process-related impurities and degradation impurities in Fusilev® 50 mg/mL injection was developed with the help of RP-HPLC. The main aim of the present study was to formulate and evaluate valacyclovir-loaded liposomes. A drug and excipient compatibility study was performed by FT-IR, and the study revealed that there was no interaction between drug and excipients. Liposomes are prepared by using two different methods, i.e., ether injection method and thin-film hydration method. Various formulations are prepared by varying the concentration of phospholipid and cholesterol. All formulations are evaluated for entrapment efficiency and in-vitro drug release studies. The optimized formulation showed the highest entrapment efficiency (96.51%) and highest drug release (84.21%). The optimized formulation was evaluated for FT-IR, SEM and particle size analysis, and zeta potential studies. The FT-IR study revealed that there is no interaction between drugs and excipients. The optimized formulation was found to be stable with zeta potential -40.9 mV and particle size of 67.4 nm with uniform distribution. The present study evaluates the antihyperglycaemic and antioxidant activity of the methanolic extract of Capparis decidua (CDMtE) fruits in streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats. Streptozotocin (50mg/kg body weight/) was injected intraperitoneally in rats to induce diabetes. The STZ-induced diabetic rats were treated with CDMtE (200 mg/kg body weight /day) for seven days. Biochemical analysis, toxicity studies, and histopathological studies were carried out to assess the antihyperglycaemic and antioxidant effects. Treatment with CDMtE (200 mg.kg b.wt/day) caused a significant decrease in fasting blood glucose and improvement in the serum insulin level of the diabetic rats. Antioxidant enzymes SOD and GSH activity was increased, and LPO levels of diabetic rats decreased after oral administration of CDMtE (200 mg/kg body weight/day).
