Aim: The emergence of drug-resistant pathogens enforces the isolation of potent and novel antibiotic-producing Streptomyces sp., from the undisclosed ecological niches. Methodology: Unique Streptomyces violascens strain VS isolated by serial dilution agar plate method and strain confirmed by 16S rDNA sequencing. Antibacterial assay against multidrug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from bronchoalveolar lavage fluid was documented by primary (cross streak method) and secondary screening (agar well diffusion assay). Antibiotics are purified by organic solvent extraction, column chromatography, and thin-layer chromatography. The MIC and MBC value of antibiotics is determined against the pathogen by tube dilution method. Results: Fourteen Streptomyces species were isolated from Erode district, Tamil Nadu, with six different soil samples. Among the isolated Streptomyces sp., AC01 exhibited stable antibacterial activity against the MDR strain both in primary and secondary screening. It produced an opulent growth of powdery white colonies with yellow colour spores arranged in chains. Based on 16S rDNA sequencing, the isolated identified as Streptomyces violascens strain VS. Crude antibiotic was extracted from ISP-2 broth by ethyl...

In the present research work, measurement of viscometric parameters – Density, Molar Volume, Apparent Molar Volume, Viscosity, Specific Viscosity, and Fluidity of synthesized Vanadium (V) complex of commercial antihypertensive drug, Diltiazem has been reported in non-aqueous solvents of varying compositions. Composition of non-aqueous solvents selected for study is 20% and 40% methanol-water mixture. Experimental results showed the effect of Concentration of solute (Diltiazem drug) on density and viscosity in a methanol-water mixture. The density of Diltiazem-V (V) complex showed an irregular pattern in 20% methanol-water mixture, whereas an increase was observed in 40% methanol-water mixture. The molar volume value for the complex solution in both 20% & 40% methanol-water mixture showed rapid increase with the increase in complex Concentration. The apparent molar volumes (φv) decreased with an increase in Concentration of complex and same trend was followed in both 20% and 40 % methanol-water solvent system. Study of the viscous behavior of complex molecules in solution gives an understanding of the transport process mechanism and information about the shape...

Wattakaka volubilis (L. f) Stapf, belonging to the family of Asclepiadaceae, has a history of use in traditional medicine in numerous countries. Traditionally the plant has been used for the treatment of diabetes, eye infections, snake bites, boils, skin problems, jaundice etc. A tribal community called Kurinjan has been using this plant to reduce blood glucose level. This plant is a tall woody climber with ash-colored older branches and green or yellowish green flowers that fall in umbellate cymes. The review demonstrates that the plant has a large number of phytochemical elements with activities such as Anti-diabetic, Antioxidant, Anti-inflammatory, Analgesic, Antipyretic, Anti-tumour, Antimicrobial etc. The phytochemicals present are Alkaloids, Flavanoids, Tannins, Glycosides, Anthocyanidins. Phytochemicals such as Drevogenin, Delphinidine, Dregein, Dregeosides have been isolated from various parts of the plant. These findings are quite encouraging and suggest that this herb be researched further to validate these findings and uncover other possible therapeutic properties. Furthermore, the active chemical constituents of Wattakakka volubilis with significant pharmacological values must be isolated and...

Snakebite is an international health hazard that needs attention in terms of effective management and better treatment to recover the health of the affected individuals and society. Tribal populations and folk therapists across the world have been using innumerable plants to treat snakebite difficulties. In the present study, the efficacy of aqueous extracts of Rauvolfia serpentina root for neutralizing Bungarus caeruleus venom by in-vitro and in-vivo methods was carried out. Various in-vitro neutralization tests like Direct and Indirect haemolytic activities, Acetylcholinesterase activity, Proteolytic activity, ATPase activity, and in-vivo assessment LD50 were carried out. Rauvolfia serpentina root extract effectively neutralizes all the venom’s toxic effects. The in-vivo assessment of venom lethality (LD50) of Bungarus caeruleus venom was 0.537 µg/g. Rauvolfia serpentina root extract effectively neutralized the venom lethality, and the effective dose (ED50) was found to be10.96 mg/3LD50 of Bungarus caeruleus. All animals survived and appeared active and healthy throughout the study. The LD50 of Rauvolfia serpentina root extract was >2000mg/kg. These findings confirmed that Rauvolfia serpentina root extract possesses...

Periodontitis is a multifactorial disease. It has several associations with hormonal fluctuations; the body undergoes several physiological hormonal mechanisms. In several physiological conditions, hormonal fluctuations have been observed. One such condition is pregnancy. Several hormones are at play during pregnancy; one such hormone is PTH. Parathyroid hormone is essential to increase the maternal absorption of calcium during gestation and has been observed to have a direct effect on the Periodontium. Pregnancy confers detrimental changes to the periodontal tissues in expectant mothers. In this article, we would focus on the periodontal health seen among pregnant women and how the parathyroid hormone levels vary in pregnancy in contrast to its normal mechanism. A lacuna in the literature exists, preventing us from forming an association between the varying parathyroid levels and the periodontal health status of pregnant women observed longitudinally through their pregnancies. Through this article, we aim to bridge that...
