Carbon dots are small nanoparticles having a size of less than 10nm. They have distinctive properties such as chemical stability, water solubility, fluorescence emission, easy synthesis, and low toxicity. Because of their special properties, they have been applied in various scientific disciplines. The fluorescence property of Carbon dots enables them for various biomedical applications such as bioimaging, drug delivery, gene delivery, and cancer therapy. Green synthesized fluorescent carbon dots have biomedical applications, especially for imaging and treatment of in-vitro cancer cells. Carbon dots have visible/natural light-activated antibacterial activities. This review discusses the recent advances of carbon dots in the medical field and their...

An inflammatory disorder with an uncertain cause, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), is primarily distinguished by progressive cartilage loss resulting in persistent polyarthritis and joint deformity. Studies indicate that pannus development, which harms the cartilage and the bone, is caused by synoviocyte cellular growth, albeit the exact pathophysiology of the condition has not yet been determined. Recent research further supports free radicals’ significance in the disease’s etiology. In addition to the traditional therapy approaches, including glucocorticoids, disease-modifying antirheumatic medicines, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, newer and safer drugs are constantly being sought after because prolonged use of these medications has led to adverse side effects. Through this review, we all have tried to explore different ancient Indian ancient Ayurvedic, Unani and Tibbi, as also some Oriental and Korean herbals for their very own potential for the treatment of...

Clove oil is an essential oil made from the plant, Szygium aromaticum. It is commonly used to help ease digestive issues, relieve pain, and support respiratory conditions. This work aims to determine at what temperature sublingual films are formed most effectively during process. The given temperature batches were manufactured at 75 °C, 80 °C, 85 °C, 90 °C. The sublingual films were prepared by using the solvent casting method, and the materials used, such as Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose E5, and different grades of polyox were previously optimized. The various batches at different temperatures went through characterization regarding the viscosity of the solution before casting as well as film weight and thickness after casting. All other samples used were of 21 mm x 25 mm film. With these given film samples from each batch, surface pH, swelling index, folding endurance, tensile strength, disintegration time, and percent moisture were all tested. Thus, this study showed the optimum temperature for fast-dissolving sublingual films of clove oil to improve bioavailability and ease of...

The present study focuses on developing and validating a high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) densitometry method for identifying and quantifying ellagic acid, glycyrrhizic acid and hesperidin in the ethanolic extract of Punica granatum, Glycyrrhizic glabra and Citrus sinensis. The separation was achieved by mobile phase for ellagic acid was Methanol: Water: Formic acid (3.8:4.7:0.8) and spotting was done on RP TLC Al plate silica gel 60, for glycyrrhizic acid was ethyl acetate: Formic acid: Glacial acetic acid: Water (14.7:0.8:0.5:1) and mobile phase for hesperidin was n – butanol: Acetic acid: Water (2.8:0.6:0.9) on TLC aluminium plate pre-coated with silica gel 60 F254. Densitometric scanning was carried out at a wavelength of 254nm and 287nm in absorbance mode. The peak corresponding to reference standard and that of the extract had the same RF of 0.19 for ellagic acid, 0.14 for glycyrrhizic acid and 0.58 for hesperidin. Following the International Conference of Harmonization (ICH) requirements for precision, accuracy, and reproducibility, the method was verified. The regression equation showed a linear function with...

Drug discovery is a process that aims at identifying a compound therapeutically useful in curing and treating disease. This process involves the identification of candidates, synthesis, characterization, validation, optimization, screening, and assays for therapeutic efficacy. Once a compound has shown its significance in these investigations, it will initiate the drug development process earlier to clinical trials. The new drug development process must continue through several stages to make a safe, effective medicine that has approved all regulatory requirements. One overall theme of our article is that the process is sufficiently long, complex, and expensive, so many biological targets must be considered for every new medicine ultimately approved for clinical use, and new research tools may be needed to investigate each new target. From initial discovery to a marketable medicine is a long, challenging task. It takes about 12 – 15 years from discovery to the approved medication and requires an investment of about USD 1 billion. This article outlines the processes of new drug discovery and...
