Introduction: Ultrasound-guided axillary brachial plexus block is commonly used for forearm and hand surgery. Perineural dexamethasone 8mg has proved to prolong the duration of analgesia, but studies with low doses of dexamethasone are scarce. Hence this study was designed to determine the duration of analgesia with 2 mg dexamethasone used perineurally with ropivacaine. Methods: Fifty-Eight patients scheduled for forearm and hand surgeries were included in our study and randomly allocated into two groups. Group R- Axillary Brachial Plexus Block given with 0.75% Ropivacaine 18 ml and 2ml NS and Group RD- Axillary Brachial Plexus Block given with 0.75% Ropivacaine 18 ml and 2 mg Dexamethasone making a total volume of 20ml. Results: Four patients were excluded because of block failure. The time of first rescue analgesia in Group RD was 515.74±11.07 minutes and in Group R was 452.78±14.76 minutes and was statistically significant. Onset of sensory block and motor block in Group RD was earlier than in Group R and duration of sensory and motor block was also longer...

Neuropeptides are chemical messengers that are comprised with small chain of amino acid. Neuropeptides are synthesized and released by neurons. Neuropeptides belongs to class of neurotransmitters. Human Behaviour is dependent on social interaction and it is simply modulated by a human’s internal state. In humans, we observe different social contexts that can alter anxiety levels and modulate social behaviour. As like dopamine, serotonin, adrenaline these neuropeptides also modulate behaviours such as addiction, intelligence, habits, social behaviour, reproductive system, moods, pain, states of brain like excitement, sadness, happiness, anxiety, hallucination, depression etc. This review is also outlines about the neuropeptide CRF and NPY for their action on addiction, NPY for effect on memory function. Oxytocin is a birth hormone but it also controls major behavioural activities in male and female but mainly in female it increases social behaviour it gives powers to women hence that she can analyse social clues, identity faces, increase memory. In this review we discuss neuropeptides like Orexin, Dynorphin, Enkephalin, Galanin, CGRP, Oxytocin, CRF (corticotropin releasing...

Objective: To assess self-medication practices among healthcare workers in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic in a tertiary care teaching hospital of north India. Background: Self-medication practice is a common phenomenon worldwide but has been reported to be very common in developing countries like India. Self-medication practices have gained more significance with the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide. When consumers self-medicate without consulting the caregiver, safety issues and irrational use of drugs arise. Material and Methods: This was a cross-sectional questionnaire-based observational study conducted among healthcare workers in a tertiary care teaching hospital. A questionnaire elucidating details of self-medication regarding the history of self-medication, type of self-medication used, and reason for taking self-medication in the context of Covid-19, etc., was provided to healthcare workers from different healthcare professional cadres. Descriptive statistics did a statistical analysis of the data. Results: The present study found that the overall prevalence of self-medication for the prevention and treatment of Covid-19 was 47.8%. The contributing factors for self-medication in the context of Covid-19...

A study has reviewed three medicinal plants from India that have been traditionally used for treating and preventing diseases, including cancer. These plants, namely Withania somnifera (L.) Duna L, Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Wall, and Glycyrrhiza glabra L., possess anti-cancer and anti-tumorous properties. They contain various bio-active constituents and secondary metabolites, such as Withanolides, Withaferins-A, D, Withanone, Withanosides, steroidal lactones, Adriamycin, and 5-fluorouracil in Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal. Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) wall contains Andrographolide, β-Sitosterol, Stigma Sterol, Chlorophylla, 5-2-dihydroxy-7,8-dimethoxy-flavone, β-Sitosteryl fatty acid ester, lupeol, and Triacylglycerols. Glycyrrhiza glabra (L.) contains Glycyrrhezic acid, 18β-Glycyrrhetic acid, Glycyrrhizin, Anethole,(3% to total volatile), Iso-flavone Glabreneonl, Iso-flavone glaberidin, Licochalcone-A, and licoagrochalcone. These plants have shown promising results in preventing and inhibiting the growth of cancer cells and tumours in both in-vitro and in-vivo studies. The study highlights the ethnobotanical, pharmacological, and biological activities of these plants and emphasizes their potential for novel drug discovery, pharmacopoeial standardization, and clinical...

Antibiotic or antifungal drug resistance is a major challenge in this era. Because the discovery and development of new drugs takes a long time. So, ancient medicine formulations are being checked for antimicrobial properties. Red ochre triturated with Punica granatum (Dadim bhavit gairikvati) is herbo-mineral formulation prepared by red ochre (Gairika/Ferric Oxide fe2O3) triturated with Punica granatum (Dadima-pomengrate juice). The process is done according to the classical text Sharangadhara Samhita. This formulation is useful in naushea, vomiting, hyperacidity, anemia, piles, anorexia, diarrhea, burning micturation, etc. Analytical testing shows normal results within the standard range. The formulation is tested with reference to standard drugs for antibacterial study as two types of gram positive bacteria, viz. Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis, and two types of gram negative bacteria, viz. E. coli and Proteus mirabilis. Two fungi, named Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger are also tested again with the same formulation. Five batches of samples for each organism are tested. A statistical tool such as the mean (a measure of central tendacy) is used for...
