The aim of this study was to investigate the antibacterial activity of Psidium guajava leaf extract in periodontal film for inserting in periodontal pockets. The study was performed by formulating bioerodible periodontal film containing Psidium guajava leaf extract by simple solvent casting method using two different polymers namely natural chitosan and semi synthetic HPMC. The formulated periodontal films were then cross linked with 2 % v/v glutaraldehyde for 3 hours for extending the release of drug. The periodontal films were evaluated for various physico-chemical parameters. The cumulative percentage drug release was found to be higher for periodontal film prepared with chitosan polymer. The results from the in-vitro release studies of Psidium guajava leaf extract from different batches of periodontal film have shown that the release followed zero order release kinetics for the batch F4. The results of release data for batch F4 fits well in Higuchi model, suggesting diffusion mechanism of drug release. The research findings have concluded that both chitosan and HPMC could be used for preparing periodontal...

Vitis vinifera (Grape) encounters several difficulties during their shelf life, including weight loss, browning and softening. Packaging is one of the effective solutions to preserve fruits from postharvest loss. Tridax procumbens (T. procumbens) leaves are rich in bioactive compounds and possess good antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. This study evaluates the efficiency of T. procumbens leaf extract film as a coating on V. vinifera (V. vinifera) to increase postharvest storage life at 20-25℃. Different concentrations of T. procumbens leaf extract incorporating PVA film were successfully developed, coated on V. vinifera and stored for 21 days. Throughout the storage period, at 7 day intervals, rate of weight loss and changes in the content of titratable acidity, ascorbic acid, total phenolic, reducing sugar and DPPH scavenging activity were assessed. During storage, the T. procumbens leaf extract film-coated V. vinifera effectively inhibited the weight loss rate and slowed down the loss of titratable acidity, ascorbic acid content, total phenolic content and DPPH activity in contrast to that of non-coated V. vinifera. Therefore, the...

Adhatoda vasica Nees, belonging to the Acanthaceae family and commonly referred to as vasa or vasaka, is a prominent herbal remedy within Ayurvedic, Unani, and Homeopathic medicine systems. Vasaka is widely distributed across India and tropical regions in Southeastern Asia. This plant is recognized for its rich reservoir of phytoconstituents, notably vitamin C and various alkaloids. Alkaloids such as adhatodine, vasicine, vasicinol, vasicinone, vasicinolone, vasicine, and vasicinone, vasicine and vasicine both are found abundantly in the leaves and roots of A. vasica. Other constituents which are found in plant are triterpenes, flavonoids, alkanes, steroids, daucosterol, and β-sitosterol. The pharmacological efficacy of A. vasica primarily stems from vasicine, vasicinol, and vasicinone, known for their robust bronchodilator properties. Extensive research has explored the diverse medicinal attributes of this plant, including its antiasthmatic, antitussive, antioxidant, hepatoprotective, antiulcer, uterotonic, and abortifacient...

Further investigation into the mechanisms underlying the antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic effects of Caesalpinia bonducella leaf extracts is warranted to elucidate its potential as a therapeutic agent for managing metabolic disorders such as hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia. Future studies could explore the extract’s impact on insulin sensitivity, glucose uptake in peripheral tissues, and its influence on key enzymes involved in lipid metabolism. Additionally, assessing the extract’s safety profile and potential adverse effects through preclinical and clinical trials will be crucial for its eventual translation into therapeutic use. Understanding the pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of the active compounds within the extract will aid in optimizing dosage regimens and formulation strategies to enhance its efficacy and minimize any potential side effects. Moreover, investigating the long-term effects of Caesalpinia bonducella leaf extract supplementation on overall metabolic health, including its potential to prevent or delay the progression of diabetic complications such as cardiovascular disease and nephropathy, would provide valuable insights into its broader therapeutic utility. Collaborative efforts between researchers, clinicians, and pharmaceutical companies will be essential...

The present study has been designed to investigate the effect of SU6656, a selective inhibitor of src kinase and BAY 11-7085, a selective nuclear factor kappa B inhibitor, as potential target in a mouse model of spontaneous alcohol dependence induced withdrawal syndrome. Our experimental protocol consisted of administration of Alcohol (2 g/kg, 10%, v/v, oral), once daily for 7 days. Assessment of behavioral parameters and exploratory parameters was done on 7 day after 8 hr. of the last ethanol administration for a period of 120 minutes (90 minutes for behaviour and exploratory parameters and 30 minutes for depression and hyper responsiveness parameter). Ethanol withdrawal behaviors were hyper excitability (seizures) and this hyper excitability was behaviorally present in terms of super sensitivity to sub convulsive dose of PTZ (30 mg/kg, i.p) a convulsant. Withdrawal syndrome was quantitated in terms of a composite withdrawal severity score, exploratory behavior which was confirmed by, reflective of depression like behavior by force swim test, hyperalgesia by tail flick test. SU-6656 (1. 5 & 10...
