Proniosomes are provesicular dried or anhydrous formulations that are composed using non-ionic surfactants and solvents. The non-ionic surfactant’s hydrophilic portion orients outward to form a bilayer, while the hydrophobic portion moves inward. Medicines with hydrophilic properties are contained in vesicles, while hydrophobic drugs get embedded in proniosome bilayers. Proniosomes are physically stable while storage and handling when compared to liposomes and niosomes. They can be used to impart targeted drug action, enhance retention time, increase penetration of drug at target tissue, sustain/ control drug release and minimize side effects. These proniosomes can be rehydrated with hot aqueous solution and constant stirring and transformed to niosomes immediately when needed. Generally, proniosomes are either converted to niosomes or proniosomal gel for transdermal drug delivery to use of the benefits associated with proniosomes. This review article focuses on structure, mechanism of drug transport, composition, preparation, characterization methods of proniosomes and the research carried out in past in field of provesicular drug delivery...

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Sida spinosa L. (HYSS) in antigen induced rheumatoid arthritis in mice by intra articular administration of Bovine serum. Rheumatoid arthritis was induced by the mixture of antigen (Bovine serum albumin) and adjuvant (Imject alum) in 1:1 ratio on 1st, 7th and 21st day as an induction period. The mixture of antigen and adjuvant caused the joint destruction, chronic inflammation of synovium, pannus formation, erosion of bones and cartilage in mice. The HYSS administered at three different concentrations 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg,p.o. as test and Indomethacin (2 mg/kg, p.o) as reference standard for next 20 days as a treatment period in arthritis induced mice. The study was conducted for total 41 consecutive days as initial 21 days of induction and next 20 days as treatment period. Progression of arthritis in different group of animals was evaluated by biochemical parameters, histological changes, antioxidant activity and radiographic analysis in overall joint structure. HYSS at 200 and 400 mg/kg significantly...

Sagadevi nei is a Siddha polyherbal formulation indicated for Neerkattu and Neersurukku. The main ingredient of the formulation is Vernonia cinerea, belonging to the family Fabaceae, which has been proven scientifically to exhibit renal tubular regrowth. Based on Literature, each ingredient of the mixture has nephroprotective, diuretic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Cisplatin is a metallic compound antineoplastic drug with a known side effect of renal damage. The present study aims to elucidate the attenuative effect of Sagadevi Nei against Nephrotoxicity. MTT assay is a sensitive and reliable indicator of cellular metabolic activity. This study is done in-vitro by MTT assay in Human Embryonic Kidney (HEK) 293 cell lines. The toxicity was induced by cisplatin and the amount of cell damage was calculated. The Nephroprotective activity assessed by MTT Assay against cisplatin-treated HEK293 Cell lines co-treated with Sagadevi Nei showed an increase in the percentage of cell viability from 49.82% to 67.87% in a dose-dependent...

The present study examined the potential of horsegram yush/ broth on preventing growth of calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate (Brushite) crystals in vitro. Crystal length was measured daily over a period of 11 days Two types of yush were tested (a) akruth yush made with only salt or (b) kruth yush with Trikatu consisting of equal proportions of long pepper (Piper longum), black pepper (Piper nigrum), and dry ginger (Zingiber officinale). These yush were tested also with addition of different concentrations of citric acid or lemon juice. The yush were prepared as prescribed in Ayurvedic texts. Kruth yush significantly inhibited crystal growth and was more effective than akruth yush. Addition of citric acid to the kruth yush, reduced crystal size from Day 2 and continued until Day 11. Percent reduction was more with higher citric acid concentration (302% with 0.001 M, 35.5% with 0.0055 M and 50.2% with 0.01M citric acid). However, citric acid alone with horsegram yush did not reduce crystal size significantly. Lemon juice was effective in reducing...
