Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is one of the most well-studied neurodegenerative conditions. It is a debilitating chronic disease of the central nervous system (CNS). Almost 131.5 million individuals are predicted to be affected by the disease by 2050. The main effects of AD are cognitive decline and language problems. One of the factors contributing to AD is the gradual decrease in the brain’s concentrations of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. The breakdown of acetylcholine is carried out by the increased activity of the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme within the brain. Many natural and synthetic acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (AChEIs) have been created in order to slow down the progression of the disease over the years. Currently, there are two potential AChEIs (Donepezil and Galantamine) that have shown positive clinical advantages. Furthermore, Rivastigmine is claimed to be an anti-AChE molecule showing the effects similar to Donepezil and Galantamine. The knowledge of specific as well as multitargeted molecules to treat or cure AD is the ultimate route to reach achievements in the field of AD medication. The intention...

Video games can be symbolized as an escapism from the anxiety and pressure during the COVID-19 pandemic where social distancing is inevitable. Their growing popularity over the past decade has built the questions on how they might affect the physical health of the population. Our study aimed to determine the physical activity level with the frequency of exposure to video gaming among the pharmacy students during the pandemic. The cross-sectional study was conducted using an online survey consisting of a set of validated questionnaires modified from published literatures and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (iPAQ) among the students at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Teknologi MARA. The survey was distributed to the students via e-mail and social network from April until June 2020 amid the Movement Control Order. A total of 314 sample were collected and majority of the respondents were females (55.1%) and Malay (96.5%). Our results showed that most students spent an average of 1 to 3 days per week playing video games (48.1%), with the frequency...

Background: The medical educational environment affects the mental and professional growth of female and male students in many ways. This may be measured by many tools but Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM) tool is a globally validated and accepted tool to assess the educational environment in a medical college. Methods: The present study was conducted at Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College, Karnal, Haryana, India. The MBBS undergraduate female and male students were enrolled in the study and the DREEM tool was used to assess and compare educational climate among them. Results: A total of 246 students participated in the study out of which 95 (38.62%) were females. The overall mean score was 2.43±0.62, which was interpreted as an educational aspect that could be further enhanced. The total DREEM score was 121.6 (60.8%), which was interpreted as more positive than negative. The mean age of the females was 19.63±1.54 vs 19.69±1.61. More than 50% were female students in 2nd phase. The females scored maximum in academics (70.97% vs 56.66%...

Fast-dissolving tablets are a novel drug delivery system that provides the fastest onset of action and rapid pharmacological effects after administration. It can be administered simply by putting the tablets on the tongue, without the need for water. Mostly, this drug delivery system is efficient in emergency situations where an immediate drug response is needed. For the formulation of this kind of dosage form, natural and synthetic superdisintegrants, along with other excipients are required. In the pharmaceutical market, various kinds of synthetic and natural superdisintegrants are available. To find out which superdisintegrants give faster drug release, they are compared in the present research work. The aim of the present study was to formulate and characterise a fast-dissolving tablet using synthetic and natural superdisintegrants. The direct compression technique was used for the formulation of the fast-dissolving tablet. The formulated tablets are evaluated for precompression and postcompression parameters. From the results, it was concluded that among all the formulation batches, F3, F6, F9 and F12 were optimised, and on comparing their...

This study was conducted to explore the anti-spermatogenic efficacy of hydro-methanol (2:3) extract of Thevetia peruviana leaves (TPHmLE) on rat. Rats of treatment group were orally treated with TPHmLE at the dose of 40 mg/0.25 ml DW/100 g of body weight over a period of 28 days and control group received only vehicle. The anti-fertility activity of TPHmLE was observed by significant reduction (P<0.05) of the organo-somatic indices, epididymal sperm count, motility, viability and hypo-osmotic swelling (HOS) test. The gonadotropins (LH, FSH), testosterone, interstitial Leydig’s cell count as well as 17β, hydroxyl steroid-dehydrogenase (17β-HSD) and Δ5, 3β – hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (Δ5, 3β-HSD) activities in testis were decreased significantly in respect to control after the treatment of TPHmLE. Testicular superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activities were significantly decreased in treated group but the lipid peroxidation status was significantly elevated indicated by high thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), conjugated diene (CD) levels. From histological point of view, significant damage in germ cells of seminiferous tubule was observed by Feulgen, PAS,...
