BAEL (AEGLE MARMELOS) AN ASTONISHING HERB OF INDIA: A REVIEW
AbstractAegle marmelos (L.) is an important plant with various medicinal values. It is commonly known as Bael (or Bel), belonging to the family Rutaceae. Bilwa is used to cure a variety of diseases. All the parts of this plant-like fruit, leaves, bark, stem and roots are used in different diseases, a variety of alkaloids are found in it. Compounds purified from the fruit have been proven to have biological potential against several diseases like diabetes, gastric ulcer and have lipid regulating properties. This review emphasizes the prospective applications of Aegle marmelos (L.) in the pharmaceutical field due to its extensive pharmacological applications.
