EVALUATION OF ANALGESIC AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY POTENTIAL OF “AMLAPITTANTAK RAS”, AN ANTIULCERANT AYURVEDIC MEDICINE
AbstractThis study is an effort to assess Analgesic and anti-inflammatory property of widely used Ayurvedic preparation Amlapittantak Ras. In current study, the effects of APR were evaluated through validated animal models of pain including Hot plate, acetic acid-induced writhing, formalin-induced paw licking and Xylene induced ear edema test. In hot plate method, APR treated mice at doses 200 and 400mg/Kg causes a significant (p<0.001) inhibition of writhing responses. When compared to the control it was shown percent inhibition of 57.9% and 61.7% at 4th hour with a dose dependent manner. In Writhing test the result was significant (P<0.1 and P<0.001) with writhing inhibition 36% and 61.33% at doses 200 and 400 mg/kg respectively. In paw licking testthe APR was highly significant analgesic effect (p=0.00195**) but the anti-inflammation result was not statistically significant. At dose 100mg/kg, APR treated male mice exerted a decrease in inflammation in the xylene induced ear edema test when compared to the corresponding control group, which was not statistically significant. From this result it can be concluded that though conventionally APR is indicated for hyperacidity non ulcer dyspepsia it may be the choice of drug for the treatment of Analgesia.
