NANOFORMULATION OF HERBALS: A QUANTUM LEAP IN MEDICINAL PLANT APPLICATIONS
AbstractHerbal medicines, with their rich history of use, often face challenges in achieving optimal effectiveness due to low absorption rates and limited bioavailability of their phytoconstituents. While these constituents are typically water-soluble, their inability to penetrate lipid membranes compromises their efficacy. To overcome these limitations, integrating herbal drugs with nanotechnology has emerged as a promising approach. Nanoparticles offer a potential solution by enhancing the absorption, permeability, and retention of herbal extracts within the body. This augmentation can lead to improved potency while minimizing the required dosage and reducing side effects. Importantly, the utilization of nanotechnology does not disrupt normal physiological processes. The primary objective of this study is to systematically explore the application of nanotechnology in crafting herbal nano formulations aimed at various pharmacological activities. Through this investigation, we aim to elucidate how nanoparticles can synergize with herbal extracts to unlock their full therapeutic potential, paving the way for enhanced herbal medicine utilization in modern healthcare practices.
