PHYTOCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION ANDANTI-BACTERIAL EFFICACY OF MULTI-SOLVENT EXTRACTS OF WOODFORDIA FRUTICOSAL AGAINST ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANT KLEBSIELLA PNEUMONIAE
AbstractThe current research focused on the extraction of phytochemical compounds form Woodfordia fruticosa using n-hexane, methanol, ethanol, chloroform, water, petroleum ether and acetone. The presence of bioactive compounds in different extracts was determined by the thin layer chromatography. The antimicrobial activity of various extract at different concentration was assayed by disc diffusion assay. The results revealed that ethanol, methanol and chloroform extracts of Woodfordia fruticosa inhibited the growth of K. pneumoniae AMR strains. Ethanol and methanol extract showed good antioxidant activity of IC50 375 ug/mL and 2938 ug/mL respectively. The molecular docking analysis also revealed that ellagic acid binds with OmpA with binding energy of -7.1 Kcal/mol and myricetin with MrkD with -6.9Kcal/mol.
