The medicinal plants, Boerhavia diffusa and Cephalandra indica are both perennial climbing herbs commonly used in traditional system of medicine for the treatment of several ailments because of their healing properties. The present study aimed to identify the phytochemical constituents of methanolic extracts of these plants, followed by their metabolic fingerprinting, which was carried out by HPTLC and GC-MS analysis. Total phenol and flavonoid content were measured, followed by a radical scavenging assessment using 1,1, Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical system. This preliminary data showed encouraging results for the presence of a significant amount of flavonoid, phenols, and anti-oxidant activities. The HPTLC chromatogram of both methanolic extracts showed a variety of metabolites having different Rf value suggesting the diverse nature of phytoconstituents. Further, the GC-MS analysis revealed the manifestation of at least 23 and 22 metabolites of B. diffusa and C. indica, respectively. Propolis is a natural resinous substance with a wide range of biological properties, synthesized by bees from bud exudates of some plants. Bees make use of propolis as a building material and to defend the hive. The chemical composition of propolis varies depending on vegetation and species having plethora of therapeutic activities. To detect compounds present in propolis an efficient, precise, and reliable HPLC method was used for quantification which offers advantages in terms of speed and accuracy. This method allowed eliciting the chromatographic fingerprint by comparing the retention time and molecular weight of commercially available standards that are known to be present in propolis such as p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, epicatechin, gallic acid, caffeic acid and quercetin in different samples. Medicinal plants are essential in our balanced life diet and are in demand in allopathic and herbal medicine. The present study was aimed to evaluate the phytochemical, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of Phyllanthus emblica (Euphorbiaceae), Averrhoa bilimbi (Oxalidaceae) and Phyllanthus acidus (Euphorbiaceae) fruits. The preliminary phytochemical analysis was carried out using standard methods. Total phenolic, flavonoid, protein, vitamin-C and tannin content were analyzed. Antioxidant and antibacterial activity was assessed by DPPH and agar well diffusion method. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycoside, phenols, proteins, and amino acids, steroids, saponins, terpenoids, tannins, resins and emodols in different fruit extracts. The phenolics, protein and vitamin C content were higher in Phyllanthus emblica fruits. While flavonoids and tannin content was higher in Averrhoa bilimbi fruits. A novel coordination complex of 2-aminobenzonitrile (ABN) and octanoate ion (OC) with Cu(II) metal ion has been prepared by using microwave irradiation. The molecular formula and the geometry of the complex have been deduced from elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic moment, electronic spectra, FT- IR spectra, cyclic voltammetry, thermal analysis and EPR spectra. The molar conductance value indicates that the complex is non-electrolyte (1:0) type. The electronic spectrum and the magnetic moment indicate the geometry of the complex is octahedral. FT-IR spectra show that 2-aminobenzonitrile is coordinated to the metal ion in a bidentate and octanoate ion in a monodentate manner. The metal-ligand covalency of Cu(II) complex has been arrived at from EPR spectrum. The antimicrobial activities of ligands and their Cu(II) complex were studied against the microorganisms, viz., staphylococcus aureus, streptococcus, Klebsiella, pseudomonas aeruginosa, salmonella typhi, Enterobacter, E. coli, C. albicans, Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus niger by agar – well diffusion method. This study was performed to identify the antimicrobial compounds in Abies webbiana leaves. The antimicrobial compounds were identified by LCMS-MS. The microbial inhibitory activity was evaluated on Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538 using REMA technique and Agar-overlay TLC bioautography. The chloroform extract of Abies webbiana leaves was used for the study. The MIC against Staphylococcus aureus was found to be 195.3 µg/ml- 390.6 µg/ml. A mobile phase comprising of toluene: ethyl acetate: glacial acetic acid (9:1:0.3) was used for identification of antimicrobial compounds present in the extract by TLC bioautography. Totally 16 bands were observed in the HPTLC chromatogram when the plate was observed at 254 nm. The band observed at Rf = 0.58 showed the antimicrobial activity. Preparative TLC technique was used to isolate this active band. The compounds present in the isolated band were then identified by LC-QTRAP. Totally 7 compounds were identified to be present in the isolated bands of chloroform extract.
