Standardization is a process involving various chemical analysis methods based on pharmacological data involving general physical and microbiological analyzes aimed at the safety of a natural extract. To obtain the correct result, the standardization step is preceded by method validation. Quercetin can be obtained from the leaves of soursop (Annona muricata Linn.), which use for treatment fever, diarrhea, anti-convulsive, antifungal, antimicrobial, gout, itching, and flu. Determination of quercetin in soursop leaf extract using TLC-Densitometry must be validated by testing selectivity, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), linearity, precision, accuracy, and range. Densitometry scanning of the plates silica gel 60 F254 directly at 265 nm was used for analysis of quercetin. Plants are an important source for the discovery of new products of medicinal value for drug development and plants secondary metabolites are unique sources for pharmaceuticals food additives, flavors, and other industrial values. The commercial importance of these secondary metabolites has resulted in a great interest in its production and in exploring possibilities of enhancing its production using tissue culture technology in recent years. A good number of abstracts and research articles published, so far, for evaluating antioxidant, the anti-microbial and anti-diabetic activity of different secondary metabolites which have been extracted from various plants. In this article, we reviewed bioactivity of flavonoids, alkaloids, and phytosterols of total 18 different plants. The present study was carried out to assess the various phytochemical composition, GC-MS analysis, and antimicrobial potential of methanolic leaf extract of Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br. by using different solvents. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of alkaloids, coumarins, flavonoids, glycosides, phenols, quinines, saponins, tannins, steroids and terpenoids. Susceptibility testing by Agar well diffusion assay showed significant antimicrobial activity with ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of leaves against bacterial strains such as Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Pseudomonas aeruiginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and fungal strain Candida albicans. The methanolic leaf extract exhibited better antimicrobial activity than ethyl acetate extract. The UV-Vis, FTIR, and GC-MS have been employed to characterize the bioactive compounds present in methanolic leaf extract of Alstonia scholaris. The rhizomes of Curcuma caesia Roxb. (Zingiberaceae) Are traditionally used in the treatment of various ailments and metabolic disorders like leucoderma, asthma, tumors, piles, bronchitis, etc. in Indian system of medicine. Considering the importance of natural products in modern phytomedicine, the antioxidant and ant mutagenic activities of C. caesia Roxb. rhizome extract and its fractions were evaluated. The antioxidant results indicate that the free radical-scavenging activity may be attributed to the high contents of phenolics and flavonoids with a higher reducing capacity. A mathematical model optimizing bio-physico-chemical pre-treatment of steam exploded Piper nigrum, and Syzygium aromaticum lignocellulosic biomass waste was developed. The model was developed using, RSM, involving central composite face-centered design (CCD) with six parameters, three levels and 40 runs, at 95% confidence level. Six parameters optimized were quantity of each enzyme (a) Cellulase (ml); (b) Xylanase (ml) for enzymatic actions at 50 ºC; (c) Incubation time of 2-15 days for which substrate were dipped in various solvent systems; (d) Volume of solvent systems used; (e) Time of incubation at given steam pressure for steam explosion; and (f) Steam pressure 10-15 Psi.
