Coumarin segment have been reported broad spectrum of different biological activities with the oxazine derivatives. In view that we have synthesized newer coumarin clubbed 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-6-substituted phenyl-2H-1,3-oxazin-2-amine and screened for their biological studies. 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-6-substituted phenyl-2H-1,3-oxazin-2-amine IIa-j condensed with 4-Methyl-6-nitro-2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yl chloro acetate 5 to afford 4-Methyl-6-nitro-2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yl-2-(4-(4-sustitutedphenyl) oxazine – 2- yl – amino) acetates 2a-j. The newer compounds were characterized by IR, NMR and mass spectral studies and were screened for their antimicrobial, antitubercular and antioxidant activities. Compound 2a (-C6H5) 62.5 µg/ml, 2d (2-OH) 100 µg/ml against S. aureus, 2a (-C6H5) 50 µg/ml, 2f (4-F) and 2j (3-OPh) 100 µg/ml against S. pyogenes as compared to chloramphenicol and the other compound 2c (4-Cl) showed excellent potency 25 µg/ml against E. coli and 12.5 µg/ml against P. aeruginosa while compound 2e (4-OH) exhibited comparable activity of 62.5 µg/ml and 100 µg/ml against E. coli and P. areuginosa respectively. Furthermore 2i (3-Br) also showed 100 µg/ml moderate potency against E. coli compared to the standard drugs chloramphenicol and ciprofloxacin. The study of antifungal activity...

Objective: To assess the pattern of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in a tertiary care hospital. Materials and methods: This study was conducted in VSS Medical College, Burla, Odisha from October 2012 to September 2014. ADRs collected from various clinical departments were compiled and analyzed for distribution of age, gender, department, drug class and organ system. Assessment of causality, severity, and preventability was done using specific scales. Results: The occurrence of ADRs was more in males compared to females in the age group 19-60 years of age. Most of the ADRs were collected from medicine department followed by dermatology and psychiatry. The skin was the most common organ system affected followed by gastrointestinal and central nervous system. Antiretroviral drugs were the most common drugs causing ADRs followed by antimicrobials and antipsychotics. Skin rashes were the most common reaction followed by vomiting and extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS). Causality assessments of ADRs were probable for 35.71 % and possible for 64.29 %. Most of the ADRs were of moderate severity (47.48 %) followed...

The present study was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of some sesame oils obtained from different cities of Yemen. Sensitivity testing against some pathogenic bacteria and fungi were studied with four types of sesame oils in the laboratory pouring aqueous extract of the sesame seeds into the wells of the culture media. Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger and Aspregillus flavus were the microorganisms used and they were identified, confirmed and obtained from the Microbiology laboratory of the Sana’a University, Yemen. The results indicated that Semsum sanani and Semsum dwaini showed more antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus, while Semsum shahri, Semsum hadedi, did not show any activity against pathogenic bacteria and fungi. This study suggests that the compounds found in the semsum oil can form the basis for the development of novel broad spectrum antimicrobial formulations. These results support the notion that semsum oil may have many pharmaceutical...

Screening of medicinal plants for their antimicrobial activity leads to development of less expensive formulations with better safety and efficacy. A. indica and L. camara shows antibacterial activity. A. indica is multipurpose tree with wide range of uses. Also the L. camara has steroidal content showing cardiotonic, antispasmodic activity along with antibacterial activity. In the present study we have compared the individual alcoholic leaf extracts of both plants with their combination. Antibacterial activity in mixture of leaf extracts of Neem (Azadirachta indica) and tantani (Lantana camara) was tested against human pathogenic bacteria E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, P. aureginosa and Bacillus subtilis. Ethanolic extracts of Neem and Tantani leaves were used. Varying concentrations of individual extracts and their combination of 10 mg/ml, 50 mg/ml, and 100 mg/ml were prepared. Antimicrobial assay using cup plate method was used. When compared with individual leaf extract of Neem and tantani, combination shows maximum inhibition on E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aureginosa, Bacillus subtilis. These good experimental results can further be explored. The mixture...

Delonix regia Rafin. belonging to family Fabaceae and subfamily Caesalpinioideae is flowering plant native to Madagascar and East Africa. Delonix regia reported to have anti-diarrhoeal, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hepatoprotective and antimicrobial activity. The present study was carried out to establish the pharmacognostical studies, physico-chemical parameters along with preliminary phytochemical screening of petroleum ether, chloroform, ethylacetate, acetone, methanol and aqueous extracts of Delonix regia Rafin. stem bark. The macroscopical and microscopical characteristics of drug powder were studied. The transverse section of stem bark indicated the arrangement of various cells in cork, cortex, phelloderm and pith region. The preliminary phytochemical screening of various extracts revealed the presence of carbohydrate, protein, glycosides, flavonoids, sterols, phenolic and tannin compounds. The physico-chemical parameters such as total ash, acid insoluble ash, water insoluble ash and sulphated ash (8, 2.005, 3 and 1.4 %w/w respectively), loss on drying (45 %w/w) extractive values, foaming index, swelling index and fluorescence analysis of stem bark powder were studied. These studies will be helpful to establish standards for quality, purity and...
