Selenium nanoparticles are attracting more and more attention due to their excellent photoelectrical characteristics and high biological activity. Selenium is also found to be effective against cancer. ZnO nanoparticles are reported to inhibit the growth of a wide range of pathogenic bacteria under normal visible lighting conditions. In this research work, we report the preparation of a set of Selenium doped ZnO nanoparticles (Zn1-xSexO1-δ; where x = 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20) by simple chemical synthesis method. The materials were characterized systematically by X-ray Diffraction method, FT-IR spectroscopy, particle size analysis, SEM, EDAX analysis and TEM. The physical characterization studies have revealed the presence of fine particles in the prepared crystalline materials. The prepared materials were also subjected to antimicrobial assay by agar well diffusion method against both Gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) and Gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae). Among studied, the material with the composition the materials Zn0.80Se0.20O1-δ have exhibited excellent antibacterial activity against the bacteria such as, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus....

In this work, an attempt was made to synthesize new chalcones by Claisen – Schmidt condensation of substituted benzaldehydes with 4-aminoacetanilide in the presence of base catalyst. The synthesized chalcone derivatives was characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR and also tested for their antimicrobial activity and compared with the standard...

Coconut shell oil was extracted from raw coconut shells, collected from Thiruvallur District. These were extracted using various solvents based on the polarity which includes ethanol, chloroform, acetone, petroleum ether and aqueous. The antibacterial activity against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella typhi was done. The antifungal activity against the growth of organisms such as Epidermophyton floccosum, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium, Microsporum canis, Candida albicans and Aspergillus flavus were tested. The extracts were compared with standards like novobiocin, amoxillin and ketoconazole for antibacterial and antifungal activity respectively. The results indicate that zone of inhibition increased when increasing the concentration of the extracts. Among the five extracts of coconut shell oil the ethanolic extract exhibited maximum antibacterial activity against six bacterial strains. Ethanol and petroleum ether extract showed maximum inhibitory activity against Epidermophyton and Candida albicans. This study showed that coconut shell oil possesses antimicrobial...

Endophytic actinomycetes are the potential source for obtaining novel bioactive compounds. Present study evaluates the chemical constituents in Ocimum basillicum and its endophytic actinomycetes. Eleven endophytic actinomycetes were isolated from O. basillicum plant. Among eleven, one isolate was characterized by 16S rRNA and identified as Streptomyces flavoviridis A3WK. A comparative analysis of the FT-IR, GC-MS, antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of plant and endophytic actinomycetes extracts was conducted. 12 compounds each of Streptomyces flavoviridis A3WK and O. basillicum were identified by GC-MS. The FT-IR and GC-MS analysis reveals that S. flavoviridis A3WK has more antimicrobial, antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory properties compared with the results of O. basillicum. Over all the activity of the endophytic actinomycetes was more compared to that of the O. basillicum extracts. The study reveals to show that the existence of endophytic actinomycetes may enhances medicinal value of the medicinal plants, and hence such studies help in the study of endophytic actinomycetes as well as their relevance in host...

Benzimidazole is a heterocyclic aromatic organic compound which has been an important pharmacophore and privileged structure in medicinal chemistry. Substituted benzimidazoles have considerable interest as compounds with a wide spectrum of biological activity and low toxicity. In the present study, a new series of benzimidazole thiourea derivatives are synthesize and screened for antibacterial and antifungal activity. The Methyl 4-(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl) phenyl carbamodithioate amine derived from Methyl 4-(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl) phenyl carbamodithioate (TD1-TD6) have been synthesized by reacting the thio methyl group with different amines in presence of ethanol. The synthesized compounds were characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, Mass spectra and elemental analysis. The synthesized compounds were screened for their in vitro growth inhibiting activity against four bacterial strains Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus (Gram positive bacteria); Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aureginosa (Gram negative bacteria) and two fungal strains namely Candida albicans and Asperginous niger. The synthesize compounds were compared with standard agents norfloxacin for antibacterial and fluconazole for antifungal activity using well plate method. Compounds exhibit good activity in bacteria Bacillus subtilis and fungous...
