Background & Objective: India is home to two infectious diseases caused by Salmonella: typhoid and paratyphoid fever. The medication of choice for S. typhi is ceftriaxone, a third-generation cephalosporin. Study was carried out on the Surveillance of Enteric Fever in India to ascertain the prevalence, clinical manifestation, and trajectory of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This work aimed to examine the antibiogram profiles of Salmonella typhi found in patient blood cultures. Second, to record how often Salmonella typhi infections occur located in Vadodara, the Antibiotic Susceptibility Test is third. Material and Methods: The Retrospective study was carried out over a period of 12 months after obtaining ethical approval. The freshly drawn venous blood was placed in a blood culture vial. Following identification of pathogen isolates, Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion test was employed to determine antibiotic drug susceptibility as per CLSI rules. Results: Total 10,126 blood samples were collected. In 84 samples (0.83%), 83 instances of Salmonella typhi and 1 instance of Para typhi B. The ratio of males to females was 1:2....

Pharmaceutical sciences face challenges related to antibiotics toxicity and microorganism resistance. Olax dissitiflora (mussiro) is traditionally used in Mozambique for skin diseases treatment and beauty. The research aims to bring scientific studies for its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. The hydroethanolic extracts of leaves, stem and stem bark of Olax dissitiflora species were evaluated for their phytochemical composition, antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Thus, total phenols, total flavonoids, hydrolysable and condensed tannins, total alkaloids and antioxidant activity were determined by spectrophotometric method and the correlation between the concentration and activity was made. The antibiotic properties were evaluated by disk diffusion method. The results showed higher phenolic content (159.9 ± 0.9 mg GAE / DE), and higher antioxidant activity for the stem extract in all tested methods: DPPH assay (EC50 = 150.80 ± 0.47 µg/mL), ABTS test (EC50 =25.01 ± 0.05 µg/mL), ferricyanide test (EC50 =23.98 ± 0.14 µg/mL) and phosphomolybdenum test (EC50 = 180.19 ± 0.07 µg/mL) with a very good correlation with the extract concentration. Regarding the antibacterial activity of...

The synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles has emerged as a burgeoning field of research due to its promising applications in advancing technological frontiers. Particularly, the utilization of biologically derived nanomaterials has gained significant traction within the realm of nanotechnology. Tamarindus indica plant extract has demonstrated efficacy as a viable precursor for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles. Tamarindus indica, being a locally abundant plant, boasts a rich composition of essential amino acids and vitamins. This investigation presents the biosynthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles using an aqueous extract derived from Tamarindus indica. The aqueous extract and resultant nanoparticles underwent comprehensive characterization techniques such as XRD, DLS, UV, SEM, and EDS. Additionally, this study delves into the antimicrobial properties of the synthesized compound. By minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and Agar diffusion method of the extract against various test organisms was conducted, with results indicating antimicrobial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria as well as fungi. The efficacy of the antimicrobial effect was assessed by measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone....

Eryngium foetidum commonly known as cilantro or spiny coriander is a tropical perennial herb known for its distinctive aroma and medicinal properties. While it is mainly used as a culinary herb, it has long been valued in traditional medicine for a variety of health benefits. The present study was intended to analyse the phytochemicals present in the ethanolic extract of the leaf. Qualitative analysis has revealed the presence of various bioactive compounds and the major classes of phytochemicals typically found in Eryngium foetidum were flavonoids, tri-terpenoids, steroids, tannin, saponin, carbohydrate and phenol. Also, attempt has been made to isolate endophytic bacteria from Eryngium foetidium after performing controlled surface sterilization. The isolated organisms were marked as B1 and B2 and subjected to perform antibacterial and antifungal activities against important pathogenic strains viz; Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, E. coli, Klebsiella pneumonia & Aspergillus sp. The B1 isolate was however found to be effective with its substantial activities with zone of inhibitions of 18mm, 17mm, 15mm and 17mm respectively along with the...

Recently care regarding functional finishing of medical apparels such as liquid/blood repellent and antimicrobial has increased due to the risk of harmful microbes generation on these fabrics while coming in contact with fluids such as blood, sebum etc. Of the various medical textiles, surgical apparels are important textile products as they protect health care workers from microbial contamination. As consumers have become more aware of hygiene and potentially harmful effects of microbes, the demand for antimicrobial finished clothing is increasing. Different chemicals and heavy metal finished fabrics even though provide good liquid/blood repellent and antimicrobial activity, but these compounds cannot be used for the development of surgical gown due to factors like toxicity and non-biodegradability. Over the last few years, several attempts have been made to replace petroleum products with renewable and biodegradable components. Hence, fabric finished with chitosan (natural polymer)-herbal bionanocomposite are considered significant for fulfilling these objectives. This review discusses different protective textiles prepared with different antimicrobial and liquid/blood repellent finish used in medical textiles. It also...
