Cutaneous aspergillosis is a rare locally invasive disease in immunocompromised patients caused primarily by Aspergillus species which induce primary infections through injured skin, burns, or locally infect via fungal contaminated adhesive dressings or intravenous catheter insertion, resulting in lesions to erythematous papules. About 80% of aspergillosis is caused by the ubiquitous and fastest-growing airborne fungi Aspergillus fumigatus leads to mortality in immunocompromised patients. Thioredoxin systems are one of the two main antioxidant systems in maintaining their cellular redox homeostasis essential for cell viability and occurring in all life forms. Thioredoxin reductase is one of the components of Thioredoxin system responsible for the normal growth of Aspergillus fumigatus. The present study deals with the in-silico analysis of binding efficiencies between phytochemicals from different medicinal plants with the target protein thioredoxin reductase of Aspergillus fumigatus using bioinformatics tools. The phytochemicals and target protein structure were retrieved from PubChem and PDB (ID:6BPY) databases, respectively. Qikprop module was used for ADME profiling of phytochemicals and the selected phytochemicals were subsequently docked with protein...

Nowadays, the use of herbal drugs is tremendously increased due to the lesser number of side effects when compared to pure form of drugs. Herbal medicine is a complex compound with multiple synergistic mechanisms of action which modulate pathophysiological functions. Even though few herbs exhibit toxicity, they possess many therapeutic values and curative principles; one such herb is calotropis. It exists in three species that produce pharmacological effects: cardiovascular, anti-cancer, antimicrobial, anticonvulsant, and smooth muscle relaxant. In this research, 24 chemical constituents of all calotropis species were selected. The molecular properties, bioactivity scores, ADMET profile of 24 calotropis species chemical constituents were predicted using computational tools, including mol inspiration, Pre ADMET, and structures drawn using chem sketch. The results drawn from the study were compounds C8[Syriogenin] and C16[urosolic acid] exhibited good oral bioavailability, bioactivity scores, intestinal absorption, renal absorption, decreased metabolism rate by inhibiting CYP3A4 and less toxic by Ames...

Background: The unprecedented overuse and illogical prescribing of antibiotics for various illnesses has accelerated the evolution of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which has contributed to the resurgence of pathogenic strains with strengthened resistance to conventional therapies. Rising resistance has threatened human health and increased the expense of treating diseases, compromising the treatment procedure for a wide range of antibiotics. Microbes are diversifying quickly due to rapid evolution, which makes it difficult to develop management strategies. This favours the use of plant-derived antimicrobials obtained from medicinal plants to treat diseases. Over the last two decades, an abundance of plant-derived antimicrobials with a wide spectrum of activity against numerous pathogens that cause human infections have been discovered via extensive research. There are various compounds with active components that have been found and are marketed. They have great antibacterial power and can be utilised as antibiotic resistance modifiers or antimicrobials. The current study focuses on the characteristics of plant antimicrobials, their mechanisms of action in combating the rise in microbial resistance, and, in particular,...

Despite the considerable advancement in medical sciences and allopathic medicines, the use of complementary and alternative medicines has dramatically increased worldwide. Bacopa monnieri is one of the most important and highly studied medicinal plants that is being used as an ayurvedic or ethnomedicine for thousands of years. It improves intelligence rejuvenation and treats mental illness, fever, a blood disorder, anemia, etc. The main phytoconstituents of B. monnieri have been reported as alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, and glycosides, including various sterols and potassium salts. The plant possesses multiple pharmacological properties, such as memory enhancer, anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, gastroprotective, anxiolytic, hepato-protective, anti-cancer, anti-hyperglycemic, antimicrobial, etc. The pharmacological properties of the plant can be attributed to the presence of saponin-bacoside. The formulations of this plant are used for clinical applications by numerous research groups and pharmaceutical companies worldwide, including in Asia, Australia, and the United States of America. Considering the importance of the plant, the present review summarizes the ethnomedicinal and pharmacological activities of B. monnieri, which may help in exploring the untapped...

Antibiotic or antifungal drug resistance is a major challenge in this era. Because the discovery and development of new drugs takes a long time. So, ancient medicine formulations are being checked for antimicrobial properties. Red ochre triturated with Punica granatum (Dadim bhavit gairikvati) is herbo-mineral formulation prepared by red ochre (Gairika/Ferric Oxide fe2O3) triturated with Punica granatum (Dadima-pomengrate juice). The process is done according to the classical text Sharangadhara Samhita. This formulation is useful in naushea, vomiting, hyperacidity, anemia, piles, anorexia, diarrhea, burning micturation, etc. Analytical testing shows normal results within the standard range. The formulation is tested with reference to standard drugs for antibacterial study as two types of gram positive bacteria, viz. Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis, and two types of gram negative bacteria, viz. E. coli and Proteus mirabilis. Two fungi, named Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger are also tested again with the same formulation. Five batches of samples for each organism are tested. A statistical tool such as the mean (a measure of central tendacy) is used for...
