Aspergillus flavus is a famous fungus that produces aflatoxins. Aflatoxins are the most well known toxic and carcinogenic chemical prominent produced in nature. The fungus and aflatoxins are the main concern of the corn consumer. Pangi (Pangium edule Reinw) is a potential native plant to reduce infestation of the fungus A. flavus to prevent fungal contamination of food or feed. The research was undertaken to assess the antifungal activity of the P. edule Reinw extracts of seed against fungus A. flavus. Higher concentration is shown as the best concentration to suppress the growth of the A. flavus both mycelial growth and emerging new colony. The concentration of the 15% effectively and consistently inhibits A. flavus than other treatments. The lower concentration of 0.5%, 0.75%, 1% showed not significantly different over the control. Antioxidant and antihyperlipidemic activities of the extracts of Syzygium cerasoideum were investigated by studying their in-vivo effects on triton and cholesterol induced hyperlipidemia. Highest antioxidant activity was exhibited by methanolic extract followed by chloroform extract of S. cerasoideum. In triton induced hyperlipidemic model, the groups treated with the extracts of S. cerasoideum and pitavastatin demonstrated a significant decrease in the levels of TC, TG, LDL-C, VLDL-C particularly treatment with CESC at the dose of 200 mg/kg b.w resulted in significant decrease in levels of TC (67.60%), TG (47.89%), LDL-C (85.80%) and VLDL-C (47.89%) whereas HDL-C levels are significant to standard. In cholesterol induced hyperlipidemic model, the groups treated with the extracts of S. cerasoideum and pitavastatin demonstrated a significant decrease with the CESC and MESC at low doses in the serum levels TC (68.68%), TG (60.22%), LDL-C (85.44%), VLDL-C (70.71%) besides an increase in serum HDL-C (62.26%) levels when compared to cholesterol-induced hyperlipidemic control group. After an increasing concern of sub-therapeutic use of antibiotics in poultry to treat enteric and other infections, an interest in alternative and efficient products with antibacterial properties has increased. From ancient time, the plants are constantly contributing as a useful source for the therapeutic and pharmaceutically important compounds. In this study, we therefore tested for the presence of important phytochemicals and antibacterial potential of Curcuma longa and Curcuma aromatica rhizome extracts against poultry enteric pathogens. Pharmaceutically important phytochemicals including alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, steroids, saponins, phenols, glucosides, etc. were found to be present in extracts of C. longa and C. aromatica. The extracts of C. aromatica exhibited excellent inhibitory action against Escherichia coli and Salmonella entertidis. However, C. longa extracts showed zone of inhibition against E. coli alone. An alternative energy sources using the sweet orange (Citrus sinensis (L.) waste as the feedstock was investigated; this is an approach to environmental protection. The extraction of pectin from sweet orange peel waste (pith) and the production of ethanol from the resultant liquid pectin with the aid of Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) were carried out. Dried pith was separated using various particle sizes ranging from 0.075, 0.5, 1.0 and 5 mm. It was observed that pith with a particle size of 1.0 mm produced a larger volume of pectin while the pith with a particle size of 0.075 mm produced the least volume of pectin. 1,770 ml pectin was obtained from 802 g of pith; this shows that citrus fruit (especially orange) contains a high amount of pectin.
