Ethanol extracts of rambutan leaves have been investigated for their anti-diabetes properties using the glucose tolerance method as well as insulin deficiency through alloxan induction. This study aimed to further evaluate these properties in obese and insulin resistant animals. The rat models were feeding with foods high in carbohydrates, fats, and propylthiouracil. The animal models were divided into seven groups: normal group, the positive control group, rambutan leaf extract at doses of 17.5, 35, and 70 mg/kg b.w., and the orlistat and metformin groups. The parameters evaluated during therapy were body weight, food index, feces index, and blood glucose levels. The rambutan leaf ethanol extract at a dose of 17.5 mg/kg b.w. resulted in a decrease in body weight by 2.44% compared to the initial body weight and could also decrease appetite with the amount of food intake equal to 10.71 g compared with the positive test group at 12.49 g. The present research work was considered to achieve preliminary phytochemical screening, acute oral toxicity, antioxidant activity, and to evaluate the antihyperlipidemic property of the aqueous and ethanolic extracts of leaves of Amaranthus tricolor. Antioxidant activities of the aqueous and ethanolic extracts of leaves of Amaranthus tricolor were investigated by Free Radical Scavenging Activity (DPPH method) and antihyperlipidemic activity by in-vivo effects on an atherogenic diet (2% cholesterol, 1% choline chloride and 2% Lard) induced rats hyperlipidemia. Our results exposed that Amaranthus tricolor showed potent antioxidant properties. In the cholesterol-induced hyperlipidemic model, groups of rats treated with extracts A. tricolor showed a significant reduction in total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG) and in levels of SGOT, SGPT, ALP, LDH, and CKMB activities whereas increase in the level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) compared to cholesterol-induced hyperlipidemic control group at dose-dependent manner but the effect was less than the standard drug Atorvastatin. To assess the effect of Perillyl alcohol (POH) on the lipid profile of high-fat-diet-induced hyperlipidemia in white male albino Wistar rats, the hyperlipidemia was induced by feeding cholesterol-rich high-fat diet for 45 days in male albino Wistar rats. The decline in the triglycerides, LDL and VLDL was significant at 100 & 200 mg/kg dose of POH compared to Atorvastatin group. The decrease in total cholesterol was significant at 100 and 200 mg/kg doses compared to hyperlipidemic control. The results demonstrate that POH at a dose of 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight lowers the serum triglyceride, LDL, VLDL, total cholesterol and increase HDL level significantly in high-fat-diet-induced hyperlipidemic rats. Aspergillus flavus is a famous fungus that produces aflatoxins. Aflatoxins are the most well known toxic and carcinogenic chemical prominent produced in nature. The fungus and aflatoxins are the main concern of the corn consumer. Pangi (Pangium edule Reinw) is a potential native plant to reduce infestation of the fungus A. flavus to prevent fungal contamination of food or feed. The research was undertaken to assess the antifungal activity of the P. edule Reinw extracts of seed against fungus A. flavus. Higher concentration is shown as the best concentration to suppress the growth of the A. flavus both mycelial growth and emerging new colony. Antioxidant and antihyperlipidemic activities of the extracts of Syzygium cerasoideum were investigated by studying their in-vivo effects on triton and cholesterol induced hyperlipidemia. Highest antioxidant activity was exhibited by methanolic extract followed by chloroform extract of S. cerasoideum. In triton induced hyperlipidemic model, the groups treated with the extracts of S. cerasoideum and pitavastatin demonstrated a significant decrease in the levels of TC, TG, LDL-C, VLDL-C particularly treatment with CESC at the dose of 200 mg/kg b.w resulted in significant decrease in levels of TC (67.60%), TG (47.89%), LDL-C (85.80%) and VLDL-C (47.89%) whereas HDL-C levels are significant to standard.
