Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by red, scaly and raised patches, and it has affected nearly 2-3% of the population worldwide. This skin disorder occurs when the immune system sends faulty signals that result in the speeding up of the skin cell cycle. Psoriasis is histologically characterized by marked hyperproliferation of keratinocytes, neutrophils, and a dense inflammatory infiltrate of T cells. Vascular dilation and proliferation are also observed. The primary defect in psoriasis patients was believed to be an abnormal epidermal cell proliferation. Psoriatic skin exhibits an advanced state of lipid peroxidation. It has been suggested that antioxidant treatment can help in the management of the disorder. Literature indicates that polyphenolic compounds found in plants have a positive effect on many chronic diseases. Natural polyphenols, recognized as potent antioxidants, are multi-functional molecules that can act as anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative agents through the modulation of multiple signalling pathways. This characteristic could be advantageous for the treatment of multi-causal diseases, such as psoriasis. Genistein is one of such...

Oral administration of drugs is considered a convenient route; however, various drugs that are insoluble in water or cannot permeate across gastrointestinal tract membrane cannot be delivered by this route. To enhance the permeability through the physiological barriers, lipophilic drugs are introduced but, lipophilic drugs have low oral bioavailability. To enhance the bioavailability, a third-generation lipid matrix was introduced as nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs), which are a mixture of solid lipids mixed with some incompatible liquid-lipids. NLCs have been reported to be an alternative system to emulsions, liposomes, microparticles, solid-lipid nanoparticles (SLNs). This article mainly focuses on the types and methods of preparation, advantages, the applicability of NLCs in the present and in the near...

Male infertility has remained a complex multi-factorial disease and needs advanced molecular studies. The development of effective diagnostic capabilities has resulted in the desire to create minimally invasive tests to help in the understanding of the etiology of male infertility. In recent times, research on human sperm proteomics has gained momentum and provides detailed information regarding spermatozoa’s functional state. Sperm proteome changes are seen in many male infertility cases linked conditions. A Revolution in omics and the availability of advanced proteomic tools have increased the knowledge and understanding of the causes of male infertility. Proteomic tools and techniques including liquid chromatography, mass spectroscopy and MALDI-TOF are employed in sperm proteins profiling towards identifying the molecular pathways that are defective in infertile men. Proteomic information empowers better comprehension of sperm biochemistry and provides data that aids in improving reproductive outcomes in infertility patients. Therefore, this review explores the proteomic concepts and techniques for spermatozoa proteome analysis. It also examines the proteomic approaches, including the role of sperm proteomic data, in...

Background: In the field of pediatrics, a number of herbo-metallic preparations are available which tend to enhance immunity in children. Various Ayurveda texts have mentioned these preparations, especially gold formulations like Swarna Prashan, Suvarnabindu, Suvarna Vacha, Kumarabharana Rasa etc. in children, and many clinical studies have also been published to establish their safety and efficacy. Material and Method: Subject-related published research articles from various journals were searched online through PubMed, Google Scholar and data of the articles were analyzed by following PICOS format to confirm their safety and efficacy in the paediatric population. Results: Total 7 clinical studies showing safety and efficacy of Ayurvedic herbo-metallic preparations in paediatric disorders such as Chronic tonsillitis, Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) and healthy children were treated with significant effect in their diseased condition and reducing the frequency of recurrent infections. No any adverse or toxic effect of any of these formulations was noticed. Conclusion: Gold preparations are found quite safe to use in pediatric disorders with proper dose and vehicle as well...

Medicinal plants are a reservoir of biologically active compounds with therapeutic properties, and in that context, Opuntia ficus indica and other Opuntia species are of immense importance because of their nutraceutical and pharmaceutical values along with their anti-inflammatory effects, hypoglycemic, anti-hyperlipidemic effects, anti-atherogenic and anti-spermatogenic potential. The cactus Opuntia is a xerophytic plant grown in more than thirty countries, including Mexico, South America, South Africa and India. All parts of the plant, including pear, roots, cladodes, seeds and juice, have these pharmacological properties, which have been attributed to the presence of high content of phenolic acids, flavonoids such as quercetin, kaempferol, anthocyanin and ascorbate etc., and pigments such as carotenoids, betalains, tannins etc. Other reported phytochemical components such as biopeptides, phytoalbumins, minerals such as vitamin B1, B2, B3 and Vitamin C, soluble fibers also add to the medicinal properties of Opuntia spp. presence of these bioactive has made Opuntia a high potential plant that can be investigated for commercial production and consumption as a neutraceutical. The present review provides...
