A Quality design approach to method development involves method goal identification, method scouting and evaluation, method selection, and risk assessment. The present study describes the risk-based HPLC method development and validation of Formoterol fumarate and Aclidinium bromide in a pharmaceutical dosage form. The chromatographic conditions were optimized with the Design Expert software 11.0 version i.e., Kromasil C18 (250×4.6 mm, 5 µm) Mobile phase used was 0.01N Kh2po4 (pH :3.0) (52.4%): Acetonitrile (47.6%), flow rate was found to be 1.0ml/min with retention times of formoterol 2.456 min and Aclidinium 3.573min. The developed method was found to be linear in the range of Formoterol 1.5-9μg/ml, aclidinium 50-300μg/ml with a correlation coefficient of 0.999 for both drugs. The % RSD of intraday and inter-day precision for Formoterol 0.3 & 1.0, Aclidinium 0.7 & 0.4. The robustness values were less than 2%.The assay was found to be 99.91%&99.99% for formoterol and aclidinium bromide. The method validation parameters were in the prescribed limit as per ICH guidelines. Stress studies reveal that both drugs were...

Antimicrobial resistance is a threat to public health. This study investigated the occurrence of ESBL and colistin resistance among Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa recovered from clinical samples (n=500) in a tertiary teaching hospital in Abakaliki, Nigeria. The samples were bacteriologically analyzed using selective culture media, biochemical tests, and PCR. All isolates were screened for ESBL and colistin resistance genes using both PCR and disk diffusion methods that included standard antibiotic disks for susceptibility studies. E. coli (n=173), K. pneumoniae (n=120) and P. aeruginosa (n=62) were recovered from the clinical samples investigated. The most prevalent ESBL genes detected is blaCTX-M found in 3 isolates of P. aeruginosa, 4 isolates of E. coli and 2 isolates of K. pneumoniae. The colistin resistance gene, mcr-3 was detected in 4 strains of E. coli for the first time in Southeast Nigeria. Both mcr-1 and mcr-3 was not detected in the K. pneumoniae strains. Only the mcr-2 colistin resistance genes were detected in K. pneumoniae strains. There was no detection of...

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that is marked by atheroma and patchy intimal plaques in arteries that cause thickening and hardening of arteries. It is reported that “Origanum majorana L.” possess antiulcerogenic, antiproliferative, antioxidant, and anticarcinogenic activities, and it is an important remedy against thromboembolic disease. The present study was designed for the evaluation of the anti-atherosclerotic activity of hydrodistilled volatile oil (OMO) of Origanum majorana L. in high-fat diet-induced atherosclerotic rats. The in vitro studies found that OMO possesses fibrinolytic, thrombolytic, and antiplatelet activity. These activities can play an effective role in the anti-atherosclerotic activity of OMO. Atherosclerosis was induced using a high-fat diet model in atherosclerotic activity of OMO. Atherosclerosis was induced using a high-fat diet model in histopathological examination of the aorta was determined at the end of the study. OMO significantly showed that the levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipid (LDL), and very low-density lipids (VLDL) levels were also decreased, there is a decrease in the level of liver function enzymes...

Background: To enhance patient compatibility Safoof e Muhazzil (powder) was compressed into tablets. Objectives: The present study was aimed at comparing the two dosage forms for any variations in the efficacy of Safoof e Muhazzil. Method: This triple-armed RCT was carried out on 90 patients after obtaining ethical clearance and written and informed consent. The study period was six weeks. Improvement was measured in terms of change in weight, BMI, waist hip ratio (WHR) and waist circumference (WC). 5g of powdered Safoof e Muhazzil (SMC) was given twice daily with water, whereas, 5 tablets of Safoof e Muhazzil (SMT) were given twice daily with water. The third group was given atarvostatin 10 mg once daily. Result: The study recorded a 20.03 % dropout. Most of the patients were non-alcoholic, non-smoker, non-vegetarian males above 45 years and had BMI between 25-30 kg/m2. SMC and SMT gave similar results on all parameters of weight management with p<0.001. This can be attributed to the anti-oxidant and lipolytic properties of Safoof e Muhazzil...

As new treatments and medication are growing rapidly, neurologists are also toward expanding treating patients with idiopathic Parkinson’s disease and facing questions regarding cannabis as a treatment elective, particularly for levodopa-safe Parkinson’s symptoms. Cannabinoids compounds like delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD) are the most abundant chemicals present. Whereas THC is psychotropic chemical that tends to cause individuals to feel “high,” while CBD is no psychotropic chemical. Nonetheless, other than cannabis, plant cannabinoids are also produced by the mammalian body, called endocannabinoids. Endocannabinoids are neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors and cannabinoid receptor proteins expressed throughout the central nervous system, including the brain and peripheral nervous system. So, these endocannabinoid receptors can be of two types cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1R) and cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2R), which are G-protein coupled receptors. The first receptor, CB1R receptors are particularly abundant in the hippocampus, frontal cortex, basal ganglia, hypothalamus and cerebellum, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system. They can also be found in inhibitory GABA-ergic neurons and excitatory glutamatergic neurons. Whereas CB2R receptor...
