Background: Increased anxiety in patients undergoing caesarean delivery has a negative impact on fetus and mother. Music therapy can have beneficial effects. The aim of our study was to determine the effects of preoperative and intraoperative music therapy on anxiety, pain, patient satisfaction and postoperative nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing caesarean delivery under spinal anaesthesia. Methods: A prospective randomised study was conducted on 100 patients, 18–40 years of age, ASA Grade I–III posted for caesarean delivery under spinal anaesthesia. Patients were randomly divided into two groups (50 each). Group M patients listened to soothing meditative flute music, and Group C patients had no music but headphones until the end of the surgery. Observations were recorded and analysed statistically: mean blood pressure (MBP), heart rate (HR), visual analogue score (VAS) for pain, visual analogue score for anxiety (VASA), and patient satisfaction score (PSS). Results: Compared to Group C, HR and MBP in Group M started falling after 10 minutes of spinal anaesthesia, and the difference was significant (p<0.05). Compared...

Introduction: Diabetic neuropathy occurs in about half of the individuals with long-standing diabetes manifested as polyneuropathy, mononeuropathy and autonomic neuropathy. There is evidence indicating the involvement of zinc in diabetes. Aim: To evaluate the effect of Zinc as add-on therapy in Diabetic Neuropathy on the basis of clinical signs and symptoms and glycaemic control. Materials and Methods: This prospective study was conducted in the Department of Pharmacology at Sarojini Naidu Medical College and associated Hospital Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. A total of 105 patients of either type-1 or type-2 diabetes mellitus with complication of diabetic neuropathy were included and divided randomly into control and study groups of 52 and 53 patients each. Control group received standard anti-diabetic therapy plus Pregabalin 75 mg/day and Methylcobalamin 1500 mcg/day, while the participants of study group received standard anti-diabetic therapy plus Pregabalin 75 mg/day and Methylcobalamin 1500 mcg/day plus Zinc acetate 50mg/day as add-on therapy. Symptoms and signs of sensory-motor neuropathy, autonomic dysfunction and neuropathy were recorded at baseline and on subsequent follow...

Clinical trials (CTs) are carried out to investigate novel, patient-acceptable, and more effective interventional procedures. Specific regulatory criteria for conducting CTs are recommended by the country’s drug regulatory authority, and these guidelines are followed when conducting CTs. The USFDA oversees regulating CTs in the USA in accordance with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act’s 21 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 312 (CFR). According to the GCP Directive 2005/28/EC of the 8 April 2005 and the CT Directive 2001/20/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of the 4 April 2001, they are under the control of the European Commission and EMA in the EU. Both the ICMR and the CDSCO (Schedule Y, D&C Act) have control over the Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research on Human Subjects. The European Commission’s objective of promoting an environment that is suitable to CTs within the EU is to be realised with the help of the Clinical Trials Regulation (CTR) (No. 536/2014). All interventional CTs involving medicines for human use that are...

Annona squamosa (sugar apple) is commonly cultivated in tropical South America occasionally in southern Florida as well as in Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Barbados, and dry regions of Australia. It was growing in Indonesia early in the 17th century and has been widely adopted in southern China, tropical Africa, Egypt, and the lowlands of Palestine. This plant is a small well-branched tree or shrub that bears edible fruits called sugar-apples, species of the genus Annona and a member of the family Annonaceae is traditionally used for the treatment of epilepsy, dysentery, cardiac problem, warm infection, constipation, hemorrhage, antibacterial infection and also has anti-tumor activity. Especially the seeds have another important effect they are medically useful to show many therapeutic activities such as anticancer, and CNS depressant. Hence the present study was taken to test the antimicrobial activity of seeds of Annona squamosa and microbes such as Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhi. The evaluation of the antimicrobial activity of the seed extracts of Annona squamosa was done with methanol using the...

People utilise plants regularly all around the world for the treatment and prevention of a wide range of illnesses. One abundant plant found in India is the banyan tree, Ficus benghalensis Linn. Oral and dental hygiene is the primary factor of a human being to lead a healthy life. The aim of this study is to design Ficus benghalensis Linn. candy to improve patient oral health, toothache, and acceptability. Ficus benghalensis latex was collected from market for preparation of candy for toothache. There were nine different Ficus benghalensis preparations made. Ficus benghalenis, latex, citric acid, methyl cellulose, glycerin, β-cyclodextrin, and isomalt were used in varying concentrations to create the candy. Formulation F1, F3, F6, & F8 depicted better result as compared to other formulation as they were flexible. The hardness, friability, weight fluctuation, and solubility of all of the formulations were within acceptable ranges. Due to its lack of major adverse effects and promising medicinal applications, the genus Ficus assumed to be safe for long-term pharmacotherapeutic use in...
