Synthesis of a Derivatives of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines with potent activity. Synthetic approaches allowing for variation of the 2-Amino Pyridines as well as other imidazopyridine substituents are outlined and resulting effects on anticonvulsant activity are highlighted. An experimental evaluation of anticonvulsant activity of synthesized Imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives by Maximal Electro Shock (MES) induce...

This study explored self-reported chronic illnesses and use of prescription medicines (PM) by elderly Malays in the community. The study was a population based cross sectional study conducted among 490 Malay subjects aged ≥ 60 years in the semi-urban and rural areas in Perak, Malaysia. The study was conducted using pre-validated questionnaires after getting informed consent from the study participants. Critically ill and subjects with cognitive impairment were excluded from the study. The mean age of the elderly respondents was 69.7 years and 68.4% of the elderly were females. Respondents belonging to the age group 60-69 years constituted the largest group (54.5%). The most common illness reported was hypertension (59.8%) followed by hypercholesterolemia (42.7%) and diabetes mellitus (32.2%). Other chronic illnesses were osteoarthritis (6.3%), bronchial asthma (4.1%), other cardiovascular diseases (2.2%) and other diseases (19.2%). 52.9% of elderly study subjects had multiple illnesses. 76.7% used at least one prescription medication. The highest users of PM were aged between 70-79 years, while the lowest users of PM were ≥ 80...

Home based education among clients with diabetes mellitus (DM) by diabetes educator has been cost effective although some educational intervention have strong evidence on cost saving. This study aimed to assess the cost effectiveness of home based education programme on diabetic treatment among clients with diabetes mellitus. Community based randomized controlled trial with experimental design was used in this study. Diabetic subjects who had been undergoing treatment for 3 months in Marai Malai Nagar and 9 villages at Mamandoor were selected by simple random sampling technique. 200 Participants were assigned to the study group, 200 in control group. The study group subjects were engaged in video education program, weekly once 4 sessions and nutritional counseling every 15days 30 mins for 3 months. The overall post interventional result showed from the baseline compared to control group, there was an absolute mean change in direct medical cost (from Rs 2837.05 to 1674.65), cost of investigation (from Rs 319.50 to Rs 261.11), non medical cost (from Rs 369.87 to Rs 110.79), indirect...

The objective of the present investigation is to extract and characterize the active constituent, Gymnemagenin in Gymnema sylvestre leaves using various Chemical and Analytical techniques. Extraction of Gymnema sylvestre leaves powder is done by Continuous soxhlet extraction with 80% ethanol. Identification was done by various chemical tests and TLC. Characterization and quantification by HPLC method, which is quick, reliable and sensitive. LC system Shimadzu with isocratic pumps LC 20-AT, and U.V Detector SPD 20-A was used. Reverse Phase Column C18 (250mm x 4.6mm, 5A° particle size) and a mobile phase consisting of 100 mM ammonium acetate buffer: acetonitrile (75: 25, v/v) were employed. Chemical tests and TLC revealed the presence of Gymnemic acid and its aglycone Gymnemagenin. TLC profile revealed Rf value of 0.41 for Gymnemagenin in the extract and a retention time of 7.366 minutes in HPLC method with a concentration of 3.62 µg/ml in the extract. Various validation Parameters were developed from the HPLC method for identification and quantification of...

The drug Rivaroxaban which was poorly soluble was selected for formulation of SMEDDS due to its poor aqueous solubility and its oral bioavailability which is 66%. Self micro emulsifying drug delivery system was developed to improve its solubility and bioavailability. Solubility of Rivaroxaban is determined in various oils, Surfactants, and co-surfactants by UV-Spectrophotometric method. Rivaroxaban has been shown maximum solubility in oil Peceol oil, surfactant Tween 80 and co surfactant Transcutol HP. A series of Pseudo ternary phase diagrams are constructed to identify micro emulsion region. Various compositions of Oil and Smix are titrated with water to identify micro emulsion region. From pseudo-ternary phase diagrams systems consisting of Peceol oil as oily phase, Tween 80 surfactant, Transcutol HP as co surfactant are selected for formulation. SMEDDS are prepared by selecting oil: Smix ratio 1:9 ….9:1 and Smix ratio 1:3, 1:4. Two mixtures (PTWT-2(1:9), PTWT-2(2:8) are selected for formulation of SMEDDS by keeping amount of drug constant (20mg) in all formulations. Prepared formulations are evaluated for Self emulsification and visual...
