For certain people, heart disease treatment can be achieved without surgery. Angioplasty and stend placement are the common, non-surgical procedures that can be used to open the blocked heart arteries. This technique involves five different procedures including: Percutaneous coronary angioplasty, Peripheral angioplasty, Carotid angioplasty, Renal angioplasty and Venous angioplasty. Carotid angioplasty and stenting (CAS) has been proposed as another option to surgery and is presently performed more frequently and is all around accepted, at least for high surgical risk patients. However, complications and particularly embolic strokes, even with a meticulous technique in all the procedures, can occur at any step of the procedure. To avoid and reduce these complications associated with angioplasty, it is important to have good indications dependent upon good patient and lesions selection, as well as correct technique. Patients with diabetes and 70% blocked arteries are not recommended for angioplasty. Though it is regarded as the safest, effective and of less cost it has several complications associated such as restenosis, heart attack, ventricular fibrillation, myocardial infarction,...

Background and aim: Thymoquinone (TQ), which is the most bioactive component of Nigella sativa (Black cumin), exhibits anticancer characteristics based on cell culture and experimental animal studies. However, molecular action mechanisms of these effects are not clear. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), small non-coding RNAs of approximately 22 nucleotides, are an emerging class of gene expression modulators with relevant roles in several biological processes, including cell differentiation, development, apoptosis, and regulation of the cell cycle. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential impact of thymoquinone (TQ) on MCF-7 human breast cancer cell miRNAs. Materials and methods: The expression levels of miRNAs in MCF-7 cell and TQ treated MCF-7 cells were estimated by miRNA sequencing. The expressions of miRNAs were determined real-time qPCR. Results: We detected 10 down-regulated mirRNAs (hsa-miR-1, let 7c-5p, hsa-miR-15b-5p, hsa-mir-202-3p, hsa-miR-214-3p, hsa-miR-210-3p, hsa-miR-31-5p, hsa-miR-424-5p, hsa-miR-497-5p, hsa-miR-98-5p) and 2 up regulated miRNAs (hsa-miR-22-3p, hsa-miR-132-3p) in TQ treated groups, comparing with control group. These findings highlight the effects of TQ miRNA profile and molecular mechanism on MCF-7 cells....

The objective of the current study was to differentiate contraceptives for their effects on carbohydrate metabolism. This is a cross sectional design that was conducted in different clinical settings of urban population who belong to low socio economic status by convenience sampling method. Females representing fertile age ranging from 26 to 32 and maintained on different types of hormonal and non hormonal contraceptives (OC; Oral contraceptives, DMPA; Depo-medroxy progesterone, NET-EN; Norethisterone , Implant and non hormonal intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) are enrolled and invited in 12 hrs fasting to give their blood samples. Fasting blood sugar is analyzed by GOD–PAP method. All the readings were fed on MS- Excel to evaluate mean ± S.D, Comparative effects were represented by percentile differences between different groups. The present study concluded that all hormonal and non hormonal methods posed no deleterious effects on carbohydrate metabolism. These minimized risks may be due to young age and good monitoring of therapy in clinical practices and could be threatening in the areas where these are...

The challenges of free radicals and tumour promoting agents are on the increase and this informed investigation of the antioxidant property and anticancer potential of Vernonia amygdalina, a most common medicinal vegetable in Nigeria. The leaf of Vernonia amygdalina was extracted in methanol and partitioned into hexane, ethyl acetate and aqueous layers successively. Activity guided fractionation further subjected the active ethyl acetate fraction to vacuum liquid chromatography (VLC). The antioxidant activity of the extracts was measured by the DPPH radical scavenging assay. The anticancer potential of the plant extracts was assessed by the DNA nicking assay and apoptosis induction assay. The sensitivity of the mitochondrial membrane transition pore was determined by studying the rate of change in absorbance at 540 nm under energized and de-energized conditions using Spectrum Lab UV-visible spectrophotometer. The antioxidant activity of the extracts varied considerably with respect to IC50 values. The results proved that V. amygdalina extracts had significant reduction in the formation of nicked DNA but demonstrated increased native form of DNA. The column...

The requirement of drug resistance regularly to plague Tuberculosis control, with vast increase in the spreading of MDR-TB. It can act as a gateway to XDR-TB and then emphasis on the urgency for new drug development and optimal treatment option for Tuberculosis therapy. In this study, we assess the recommending for using Rifabutin (RFB) instead of rifampicin (RIF). The objective of this study and built to shortening and efficient treatment time. This mechanism is resistance result in an efflux of various anti TB drugs from the infected bacterial cell, resultant decreasing the intracellular drug in the bacterial cell. Bacillus reverts the antibiotic treatment ineffective. Mycobacterial efflux pumps may have originally served to protect against environmental toxins, in the pathogenic mycobacteria they seems to have been repurposed for intracellular growth. On the above fact, we discuss the potential of efflux pump inhibitors such as either natural or synthetic to shorten tuberculosis treatment by their dual inhibition of resistance and growth. It has significant clinical implications, especially in MDR-TB management where...
