The present study aims to synthesize highly stable and dispersed cytotoxic silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from Tabernaemontana divaricata (T. divaricata) leaves extract, by using noble green approach at room temperature. Phytocomponents were investigated using general methods and found good agreement with reported literature. Green synthesized AgNPs were characterized using UV-Vis, FT-IR, XRD, TGA, FEG-SEM, EDX, TEM, SAED and AFM spectroscopy techniques. XRD and SEAD confirmed polycrystalline nature. TEM study shows spherical morphology with size range 6-20 nm. Suforhodamine B (SRB) assay revealed potent cytotoxicity of AgNPs on A549 cells with IC50 value 32.3µg/ml. As per SRB assay in case of AgNPs, GI50 = 37.1µg/ml, TGI = 68.9µg/ml, LC50 = > 80µg/ml, while T. divaricata exhibits GI50, TGI, LC50 values = > 80µg/ml, indicating greater biocompatibility of AgNPs in comparison to T. divaricata leaves extract. This investigation reveals that T. divaricata mediated AgNPs has a great potential for the development of an efficient anticancer nano drug with minimal side effects to combat against life-threatening lung...

Present studies describe the synthesis of a series of Schiff base derived quinazolinone derivatives (6-14) with the aim to have better anti inflammatory agents. The prepared compounds were characterized using chemical and spectral (IR, NMR and Mass) studies. Pharmacological evaluation of the newly synthesized derivatives indicated that compounds 8, 11 and 14 exhibit significant anti-inflammatory activity in carrageenan-induced rat paw oedema assay, and their effects are found to be comparable that of standard drug Indomethacin. Molecular docking studies were further employed to investigate the binding interactions to COX-2 active site residues and to study the stability of docked conformation in detail. The experimentally determined COX-2 inhibitory activity was found to be well correlating with binding modes predicted for compounds by GLIDE dock scoring function. The 2,3-diaryl-2,3-dihydro-1H-quinazolin-4-one pharmacophore reported herein represents a new lead for further development of novel non-steroidal anti-inflammatory...

Nature is always being a consistent and constant source of medicinal substances for prevention and cure of various ailments, including the helminth infections, which is one of the health problems that affect human and livestock in the world. Because of limited availability/ accessibility of anthelmintic compounds in modern medicine, and reawakened worldwide interest in plants based medicine, the present study was undertaken to evaluate the anthelmintic activity of the stem bark of Plumeria rubra (Syn. Plumeria acutifolia) along with the qualitative and quantitative estimation of phytochemicals present in the stem bark of P. rubra, family Apocynaceae – one of the ten largest angiosperm families and comprises of several prominent medicinal plants. Out of five extracts prepared, the methanolic extract showed better yield and hence used for the present study. Preliminary phytochemical investigation reflected the presence of many phytoconstituents, mainly – alkaloids, glycosides, tannin, terpenes, flavonoid, phenol, saponin. The in-vitro anthelmintic study of stem bark extract of P. rubra with reference to standard Piperazine citrate showed prominent results in concentration...

The present article describes the recent role of polymers as carriers for delivery of drug at target site to extending its release. These polymers are widely used in delivery due to their inherent characteristics such as biocompatibility, biodegradability. Chitosan and Eudragit are choice of drug in extended release matrix tablets. Chitosan is an amino polysaccharide polymer which is biodegradable, biocompatibility and nontoxic nature. Due to its cationic nature, Chitosan form complex with anions like Eudragit giving rise to polyelectrolyte complexes. Chitosan enhances the dissolution of poor soluble drugs. Similarly Eudragit polymers are also copolymers derived from esters of acrylic and methacrylic acid and have large number of applications in extending drug delivery. This article reviewed the role of Chitosan and Eudragit in controlled release drug formulations. Also, the article included role, property and uses of Chitosan and Eudragit and their use in different drug delivery system for various therapeutic...

Worldwide scientists are focusing on developing functional food products which are healthy and low in calories. The possibility of incorporating roasted flax seeds flour (RFF) and substituting sugar with Stevia rebaudiana leaves powder (SLP) for developing nutritious, healthier and high quality biscuits has been investigated. Overall six biscuit formulations were designed besides control. SLP was used as a natural sweetener and RFF was used as a source of dietary fibre. Standardisation was done by evaluating the sensory quality of the formulated biscuits prepared from a mixture of blends. As soon as standardisation of blends was completed, the standardised flour mix was used to formulate biscuits by substituting sucrose with SLP at levels of 5.5%, 6%, 6.5%, 7%, 7.5% and 8%. The treatment (T4) was found to be the best among different variations on the basis of sensory evaluation with incorporation of 8% (RFF) and 7% (SLP) resulted in increased moisture (7.57%), ash (3.69%), protein (18.88 g/100g), fat (10.97 g/100g), fibre (4.52 g/100g), calcium (408.23 mg/100g), phosphorus (445.03 mg/100g) and...
