In recent days, the increasing number of microbes and their increasing resistance power against conventional drugs have led to enormous worldwide mortalities, hence they pose a great threat to human health. The modern era is already going through the threat of COVID-19, also caused by one of those microbes called the virus. In order to get a clear understanding, all the microbes have been classified in certain types. Nowadays, to develop new alternative antimicrobial medicines, scientists must acquire clarity about the responsible functional groups of different conventional drugs with proper mechanistic elucidation on different types of microbes. This information not only clarifies the functionalities and properties responsible for exhibiting antimicrobial effects, but also facilitates the idea of new drug development through proper functional group incorporation or modification. These modifications increase the efficacy of antimicrobial drugs as well as their activity and water solubility. In this review, my focus will majorly be on the four main types of microbes and their possible mechanistic elucidation of commonly used antibiotics and alternative...

Optimizing the cultural conditions to enhance bioactive metabolite production by Streptomyces rubrus VLK-24 isolated from mangrove sediments as well as characterizing these compounds, has been taken up in this study. The culture broth inoculated in Yeast extract, Malt extract, and Dextrose broth and extracted with ethyl acetate exhibited high antimicrobial activity against test microorganisms, including Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria as well as fungi. The crude ethyl acetate extract exhibiting high antimicrobial activity was analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy, which evidenced the presence of 39 compounds according to the available library data, NIST MS Search (ver. 2.0). The results of the study revealed the production of diversified metabolites by the strain; hence it could be a possible source for novel antimicrobial...

Aim: The current research aimed to formulate and evaluate herbal nanoemulsion of poorly soluble Berberine hydrochloride, which can provide a realistic alternative for treating microbial infections. Materials and Methods: The drug was characterized using various analytical techniques such as Ultraviolet Spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and Differential Scanning Calorimetry study. The herbal nanoemulsion was prepared using the water titration method by constructing pseudo-ternary phase diagrams. Formulations were evaluated by thermodynamic stability studies, droplet size analysis, viscosity, drug content, refractive index, polydispersity, and in-vitro release study. Results: On the basis of the analytical study, no interaction between the drug and excipients was found. Based on visual observation nanoemulsion was optimized by using thermodynamic stability study and freeze-thaw cycle. The optimized nanoemulsion (NE-2) shows droplet size of 203.7 nm, Viscosity-94 centipoises, Zeta potential -19mv, polydispersity index- 0.366. The optimized formulation NE-2 shows 91.7% drug release in 24 hours and was further evaluated for antimicrobial activity using Bacillus subtilis and Candida albicans. The zone of inhibition was found to be 56.26± 1.78 mm for...

This work compared the effect of hot aqueous extraction and blending on phytochemical content, AgNPs synthesis, antibacterial and antioxidant properties of ginger and turmeric. Qualitative and quantitative phytochemical screening was conducted on a hot aqueous extract of ginger and turmeric combination (CHAE) and blended ginger & turmeric combination (CBLE). An attempt was then made to synthesize silver nanoparticles by reducing 1mM AgNO3 solution with CHAE & CBLE, respectively. The biosynthesized AgNPs were characterized using UV-Visible spectroscopy, FTIR, and SEM. Using existing protocols, the antioxidant and antibacterial properties of CHAE, CBLE, and biosynthesized AgNPs were evaluated. The result of the phytochemical screening revealed the presence of phytochemicals required for synthesizing silver nanoparticles, such as flavonoids and phenols in CBLE but absented in CHAE. The UV-Visible spectrum confirmed the synthesis of AgNPs using CBLE (AgNPs-CBLE), with the highest absorbance peak observed at 412 nm. The FTIR analysis revealed the involvement of phenolic compounds in the bioreduction of Ag+ as well as the capping/stabilization of the biosynthesized nanoparticles. AgNPs-CBLE were irregularly granulated and...

Barringtonia acutangula (L.) Gaertn. (Family: Lecythidaceae), is a medium-sized tree found throughout India. It has been used in folk medicine to treat tuberculosis, skin disease, inflammation, hemorrhoids and diarrhea. The present study deals with in-vitro antioxidant, antimicrobial and GC-MS study on the bark extract of B. acutangula. In order to investigate the antioxidant activity, reducing power activity was used. Antibacterial activity was evaluated by disc diffusion method. Identification of extract bioactive compounds by GC-MS revealed that alpha-Pinene oxide, 1,2-benzoldicarbonsaeure di-(hex-1-en-5-yl-ester), 3-methyl-4-heptanone, (Z)-3-hexadecene are the major components. The antioxidant activity of the bark extract increased with increasing concentration; the values are comparable with the standard antioxidant ascorbic acid. From the results of antibacterial activity, B. acutangula bark extract could inhibit gram-negative and gram-positive pathogenic bacteria. Thus, B. acutangula could be considered as an excellent broad-spectrum antibacterial...
