The formulation and evaluation of toothpaste contain Aloe vera along with the combination of sodium chloride. Aloe vera shows a number of uses either internally or externally, and the number of uses also increases as the research going on. In this formulation, we tried to find out the antimicrobial activity of Aloe vera in toothpaste formulation, for the said purpose we use S. aureus culture. After designing the batches in software Design Expert® 10, the batches were formulated and evaluated. At the end of work, we found that the prepared toothpaste shows considerable zone of inhibition which concludes its antimicrobial activity. The formulation also shows sufficient foaming power for its cleansing action. The observed results were found to significant concerning the chosen cubic model in software Design Expert® 10. This study reports the potential of Alternanthera sessilis leaves as antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic agent and also the characterization of a novel phytochemical from A. sessilis using bio-activity guided extraction. Antimicrobial property was studied against five bacterial pathogens, Escherichia coli (MTCC: 1687), Bacillus cereus (MTCC: 0430), Klebsiella pneumonia (MTCC: 7028), Staphylococcus aureus (MTCC: 3160), Proteus mirabilis (MTCC: 3310) and against two fungal pathogens, Aspergillus niger [MTCC 281] and Aspergillus flavus [MTCC 10938]. Petroleum ether extract of A. sessilis leaves demonstrated significant antimicrobial property and hence was further purified to identify its active phytochemicals. Silica-gel Column Chromatography followed by antimicrobial screening, lead to the identification of the active fraction, that was characterized by spectroscopic analyses. FT-IR, GC-MS and NMR (C13, and DEPT-45; 90; 135) analysis of the active fraction, characterized the phytochemical to be 3,3’-(propane-2, 2-diyl)-bis-(3,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydro-1H-isochromene) abbreviated as PDHC. Drug release properties from dosage forms can be modified by using many rate controlling polymers. Such controlled release properties from carrier systems are desirable since efficient drug delivery is achieved. The aim of the present study was to develop efficient chitosan nanoparticles loaded with rosmarinic acid (RA) and evaluate its drug release properties and wound healing efficiency in rats. Antimicrobial activity and wound healing effect of RA is well established and reported by many workers. Chitosan is also well known for possessing rate controlling properties. For proper application over wounds, the nanoparticles were incorporated into carbopol 940 hydrogel. A fourteen-hour in-vitro release study was carried out to evaluate the drug release efficiency and drug release kinetics of the nanoparticles.
