Antimicrobial activity of the various species of Cymbopogon plants like Cymbopogon citrates, Cymbopogon martini, Cymbopogon nardus, Cymbopogon flexuosus, Cymbopogon schoenanthus against various pathogens like E. coli, Bacillus subtilis, Streptococcus species, Salmonella typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, Serratia marcescens were studied with the help of agar well diffusion method. The samples were extracted with solvents like Methanol, Ethanol, Chloroform, Acetone, Diethyl ether to measure the antimicrobial activity by using Muller-Hinton agar plates. The Chloroform and Diethyl ether extract of Cymbopogon flexuosus, Cymbopogon martini showed the highest zone of inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In Cymbopogon citrates, all the pathogens were resistant to all the extracts except for Streptococcus species and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which showed the least susceptibility to all the extracts except for Methanol and Diethyl ether extract. In Cymbopogon schoenanthus, Methanol extract showed the highest zone of inhibition against Staphyloccocus aureus and Bacillus subtilis, but Klebsiella pneumonia showed resistance to all the extracts except for Diethyl ether which showed the least zone of inhibition. In...

In the vision of chemistry, Schiff bases are excellent ligands and play a very important role in drug discovery and development. The Schiff bases and their complexes have been reported in the literature possessing wide applications in biological, clinical, and analytical fields. In outlook of this, new Schiff bases of Sulfonamide drug were synthesized by a very simple reaction and in good yield. The purity of the newly synthesized bases was confirmed by performing TLC in a suitable solvent system. The functional groups present in the targeted Schiff bases were confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy. Further, all the synthesized compounds were successfully screened for their antimicrobial activity. Among these Schiff bases, the compound containing nitro and fluoro groups shows greater activity than standard drugs. By considering this, there is a need to design more analogs of sulfonamide Schiff bases and correlate the structural modifications with their respective antimicrobial activity to develop a Structure activity...

AIM: To see the appraisement of drug utilization pattern of antimicrobials in the general medicine department of a tertiary care teaching hospital. Methodology: A prospective observational, analytical study was done on patients admitted in general medicine of Maharaja Institute of Medical Sciences, Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, India information regarding age, gender, diagnosis, patients present/past medical history, treatment, drug interactions were recorded in a standard questionnaire(case report form). The drug utilization process was evaluated using quality indicators of drug use recommendations by WHO. PDD of drugs and maximally used antimicrobials were analyzed. Results: A total of 250 patients were included after excluding missing data. Out of 250 patients, 123 (49.2%) were male, and 127 (50.8%) were female, 183 (65.12%) was bacterial, 74 (26.33%) were viral, 22 (7.82%) were protozoal, 2 (0.7%) were fungal, and the p-value was 0.0213, cephalosporins were most prescribed antimicrobial (27.72%), and anti-helminthics were least (0.33%), and p-value was found to be 0.0016. Out of 18 UTI cases, 3 were male, and 15 were female, and the p-value...

Tinospora cordifolia is one of the best medicinal plants holds most prominent place in Ayurveda Rasayana herbs and it also known as “rejuvenate herbs” because of its medicinal properties. It has been found to exhibit anti-microbial properties, its anti-microbial feature found in root, stem, and leaf extracts on pathogenic micro-organisms. Green synthesis of AgNPs can potentially eliminate chemical agents’ problems that may have adverse effects, thus making nanoparticles more compatible with the eco-friendly approach. The present study focuses on the green synthesize of silver nanoparticle, which was conducted by Tinospora cordifolia leaf extract. Characterization of silver nanoparticle was performed by Scanning Electron Microscopy. Silver nanoparticles exhibit strong anti-microbial effect against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas syringae, Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis. Both methanolic and ethanolic extract showed good antimicrobial activity against all the bacteria whereas methanolic extract had wide range of anti-microbial activity than ethanolic...

Lannea coromandelica (Houtt.) Merr. which is known as Kayu Jawa in Bugis community, Indonesia has been widely used empirically for the treatment of wounds. Ethanol extract from its stem bark is known to have antibacterial, anti-inflammation, and antioxidant activity. The purpose of this study were to isolate, characterize, and determine the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of the endophytic fungi from the roots of this plant. In this paper, we reported antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of the isolated endophytic fungi from Lannea coromandelica (Houtt.) Merr. and the isolation of the bioactive compound known as citrinin. The structure of citrinin was determined by extensive analysis of the spectroscopic data (1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, 2D NMR, and LC-MS) and comparison to those of the previous report. The antioxidant activity showed that the isolated compound has moderate activity with AAI value of 0.671 and IC50 145.9 ppm while the antimicrobial activity demonstrated that the isolated compound was not active against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Salmonella typhi ATCC 14028, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa...
