The immunomodulatory potential of n-butanolic fraction of rhizome extract (hydroalcoholic) of Costus speciosus was evaluated. For this different models like estimation of serum Immunoglobulin level, carbon clearance test, delayed type hypersensitivity reaction and humoral antibody were used. In delayed type hypersensitivity reaction and humoral antibody titer , mice were immunized by injecting 20% sheep red blood cells (SRBCs) suspension in sub planter region of paw and intraperitonially, respectively. All the Data was analyzed by one way ANOVA followed by Dunnet’s test at *p<0.05, **p<0.01, ***p<0.001. Serum immunoglobulin level was raised from normal 58.4 ± 2.47 NTU up to 73.083 ± 2.367 and 147.416 ± 2.36 NTU in Low dose test extract (100 mg/kg) and High dose test extract (200 mg/kg) respectively. Phagocytic index of animals in control group was found to be 1.9 ± 0.196 and was raised upto 3.00 ± 0.067 and 4.77 ± 0.710 in Low dose test extract (100 mg/kg) and High dose test extract (200 mg/kg) respectively. In humoral antibody titer reaction button formation took...

The objective of this work was to develop non effervescent floating tablets by Melt granulation technique. Cefuroxime axetil is having shorter half life of 80 min and hydrolyzed by intestinal esterase to the non absorbable cefuroxime in the gut lumen and is, therefore, suspected as a possible cause of incomplete bioavailability. So there is a need to increase the gastric residence time of the drug. These tablets were prepared by different meltable binders such as paraffin wax, bees wax and carnauba wax as release retardants. Various formulations have been developed by varying concentration of waxes, buoyancing agent and disintegrating agent. The FTIR spectrum indicated the stability and compatability of drug and excipients. All the formulations (F1 to F9) were evaluated for weight variation, hardness, friability, buoyancy studies and In-vitro drug release studies. Among all the formulations, dissolution studies data indicated that F9 formulation exhibited good drug release 0f 91.67% and has shown floating time more than 24hrs with a lag time of 30 min. The mechanism of drug release...

A 20-year-old male patient reported to ophthalmology outpatient department with complaint of loss of vision in right eye since childhood and diminished vision in left eye for 1month of duration. Funduscopy revealed right side optic atrophy and left sided vitreous hemorrhage. Non-contrast computed tomography study of head showed hyperdense circle of Willis and cerebral venous sinuses. No contrast was given before the computed tomography scan of head. Bilateral orbit showed right sided oval enlarged eye ball with medial deviation and normal left eye ball. Magnetic resonance venography was advised to rule out sinus venous thrombosis which revealed normal study of sinuses. On clinical examination, the patient had clubbing of all fingers, mild cyanosis, hyperemia of lower conjunctiva and systolic murmurs on auscultation with raised hematocrit level (72 percentage). Echocardiography examinations of the patient shows features of tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). The hyper-dense vessel was due to raised hematocrit (secondary polycythemia...

An oral press-coated tablet was developed by means of direct compression to achieve the time-controlled disintegrating or rupturing function with a distinct predetermined lag time. The aim of the present study is to develop time depended drug delivery systems for Aceclofenac by using HPMC K100M and ethylcellulose (EC) as coating material. By applying 32 full factorial design, compression coated tablets of Aceclofenac containing different proportions of EC and HPMC K100M was prepared. All the formulations were evaluated for the hardness, friability, thickness, weight variation, drug content uniformity, and in-vitro drug release studies for 8 hr. Press coated tablets of Aceclofenac released different amount of the Aceclofenac, within the 8hr dissolution study, in the physiological environment of the stomach and small intestine, depending on the proportion of EC: HPMC K100M used in the formulation. The compression coated formulations have been formulated to release minimum amount of Aceclofenac within 6 hr dissolution study in the physiological environment of the stomach and small intestine. The results of the dissolution study showed that...

Ceropegia bulbosa is a medicinal herb, this is useful in curing many disease like kidney stone and deafness. Ethno botanical study showed that the plant has good medicinal value for tribe of Rajasthan the preliminary phytochemical studies of Ceropegia attenuata tuber and leaf extracts revealed the presence of steroids, glycosides, flavonoids alkaloids, saponins, tannins, terpenoids and potassium salt. Gas chromatography mass spectroscopic investigation of methanolic extract of Ceropegia attenuata – a annual land plant is investigated by GCMS technique while the mass spectra of the compounds found in the extract are matched with the standard library of NIST. GC MS analysis revealed the presence of aromatic hydrocarbons, paraffins, fatty acids, sterol, Oleic acid, ketons and diterpenes etc. Flavone 4′-Oh,5-Oh,7-Di-O-Glucoside (12.09%) with RT=31.78 is present in maximum amount , followed by 9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic acid, methyl ester, (Z,Z,Z)- (7.92%) with RT=16.17 in the methanolic extract of leaves of C.attenuata. Steroids like Ergost-5-en-3-ol-(3.0%), Stigmast-5-Dien-3-Ol, (3.Beta.) (5.26%), Lupeol, Globulol and Phytol were also detected. Tetratetracontane (5.13%) was also present in considerable amount. The GC-MS...
