Diabetes mellitus is an endocrine disorder, in which a person has high blood sugar, and the body does not produce sufficient insulin, or cells do not act in response to the insulin that is produced. Diabetes mellitus is a complicated metabolic disease that has gravely affected the human health and quality of life. As increase in carbohydrate intake, especially of fructose and high rich diet are both factors that contribute to the development of diabetes mellitus. In the present study, the characterization of fructose diet induced diabetes mellitus in Swiss albino mice was studied. Animals were divided into two groups, group A (Control) and group B (Fed with fructose diet). Oral administration of 10% fructose solution to Swiss albino mice for 10 weeks resulted in diabetes mellitus. For the duration of the experiment bodyweight, fasting blood glucose level and biochemical parameters (total cholesterol, total serum protein, serum creatinine and blood urea) were measured. The study revealed that fructose diet resulted in significant increase in bodyweight, fasting blood glucose level,...

Advancement in mobile technologies are seen with introduction of many smartphone applications. These advancements in the field of smartphone applications can be exploited to improve pharmaceutical care practice ultimately leading to betterment of patients. Objectives of the study were to identify, evaluate and review current smartphone applications available at various platforms and recommended for pharmaceutical care. Data was extracted from platforms Android’s Google play store, Nokia’s Ovi store, Windows and marketplace for smartphone applications pertinent to pharmaceutical care. From all the applications accessed through various platforms the five stars rated freely downloadable smart phone applications were selected, tabulated and further evaluated by using standard questionnaire. In this study a total of 194 apps were identified in android, windows and ovi store mobile platforms of which 99 applications were from Android’s Google Play Store, 48 applications from Windows store and 47 applications were available in Ovi stores. 74% of them were free to download and 132 of 194 apps i.e. 68% had customer satisfaction ratings and only nine apps had...

Topical NSAIDs do not effectively cross the skin due to barrier of stratum corneum. The aim of the study was to evaluate penetration of diclofenac from a novel quick penetrating solution (QPS) and conventional gel prepared using Tc-99 m labeled diclofenac. The study was conducted in 16 healthy subjects, divided in 4 groups, each with 4 subjects. In first three groups, the applications were made on knees for 30, 60 and 120 minutes respectively. In fourth group, applications were made at six sites (three on either side of the spine) on the back. Equal quantity of diclofenac from QPS and gel were applied on left and right knee and left and right side of the spine respectively. Measurement of radioactivity was done by gamma camera after washing of the applied drug. It was found that the penetration of radiolabeled diclofenac increased with increase in application time for both the QPS and gel formulations. Scintigraphy images indicated site specific differences in the rate and extent of penetration. Over knee, the...

A simple, specific, and precise stability indicating reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography method was developed and validated as per the ICH guidelines for the simultaneous determination of Moxifloxacin and Prednisolone in bulk and combined dosage forms. The quantification was carried out by using Zodiac C18 (250mm*4.6mm, 5μ) column at 250c with Acetate Buffer pH 4.5: Methanol: Acetonitrile in ratio of 50:20:30 % V/V as mobile phase. The flow rate is 1 mL/min and the estimation was carried out by using PDA detector at 271 nm. The retention time of MFX and PDS were 2.317 and 4.310 minutes respectively. The linearity was observed from 30-70μg/mL with correlation coefficient 0.9999 for Moxifloxacin and 60-140 μg/mL with correlation coefficient 0.9998 for Prednisolone. The LOD and LOQ of Moxifloxacin and Prednisolone were found to be 4.85 & 14.69μg/mL and 9.07 and 27.47μg/mL respectively and the Statistics data for the MFX and PDS were concluded that the method was found to be simple, reliable, selective, reproducible and accurate. The method was successfully used...

Nano-emulsions consist of fine oil-in-water or water-in-oil dispersions, having droplets covering the size range of 10 – 600 nm. The aim of this study is to formulate nano-emulsion of Clindamycin by using Emulsion Phase Inversion method and olive oil as the oil phase. Pseudo ternary phase diagram was first developed by using distilled water, olive oil and mixture of surfactants (Tween®80 and Span®20) at a ratio of 1:1. Then, appearance test and microscopic examination were done for all the pre-formulation. Three potential pre-formulation were then selected and incorporated with the Clindamycin Phosphate and Methyl Paraben. The mean droplet size and stability studies were done for these three formulations. Clindamycin Nano-emulsions were not obtained using the Emulsion Phase Inversion (EPI) method in this study, whereby the mean droplet sizes were in micro-range. However, out of all the three formulations which undergone extensive studies which include the heating-cooling cycle, whereby the formulation F8 and F17 were found to be physically stable. Significant differences were identified on the pH value and viscosity...
