Background: Evidence based medicine (EBM) integrates the best available data from clinical research into clinical practice. Residents (PGs & CRRIs) are at the frontiers of healthcare who are still struggling to adapt the paradigm shift in the practice of medicine. This study aims to explore the knowledge and attitude of EBM among residents in a tertiary teaching hospital. Materials and Methods: After IEC approval, this cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted among PGs and CRRIs in Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi institute of medical sciences & Research for 3 months. All the 81 CRRIs and 51 PGs were enrolled. Written informed consent was obtained. The pre-validated, 20 questionnaires, designed based on McColl questionnaire has been used to obtain information about the knowledge (10 questions) and attitude (10 questions) of EBM. SPSS 21.0 was used for data analysis Results: Out of 132 participants, 63.81% had formal EBM training while, 21.21 % had no previous exposure. Regarding the knowledge of some commonly used technical terms in EBM, 84.31% (43) of PGs and 11.11% (9) of...

Introduction: Preeclampsia (PE) is a common pregnancy-related hypertensive disorder that may result from abnormal placental development and is a major threat to the mother’s and foetus’s life. Methods: Placental miRNAs (miRNAs) profile was investigated using next-generation sequencing for the identification of potential biomarkers playing a role in aberrant placental development and to understand the pathophysiology(space between ‘the’ and ‘pathophysiology’) of PE. Placental tissues were collected from three patient groups (Control [n = 30], Early Onset of Preeclampsia (EOPE) [n = 30], and Late Onset of Preeclampsia (LOPE) [n = 30]) and performed miRNA profilingby Illumina sequencing, downstream analysis for identification, quantification and expression profiling is done by the quantifier.pl, script, and miRDeep2.pl, script. Results: Sequence analysis showed novel miRNAs that were disease-specific and common among all studied groups, suggesting the underlying placental pathologies in EOPE and LOPE. The real-time PCR analysis of 3 miRNAs (miR4743-5p, miR149-5p, and miR331-5p) was done, and observed differential expression in all three patient groups. MiRNA4743-5p was found to be significantly expressed EOPE when compared to control...

Clitoria ternatea was selected because it possesses various medicinal compounds of great significance based on its usage as an ayurvedic drug to cure various diseases. This study helps to understand the significance of plant sources that possess pharmacological activities and is good for health on regular consumption. A comparative study was thus conducted to analyze the potential antioxidant activity by experimental quantifying the certain bioactive compounds present in the aqueous and methanolic extracts of the fresh and dry flowers of the blue flowered variety of Clitoria ternatea. This study showed that all the extracts possessed desirable antioxidant activity examined by DPPH assay and peroxide value assessment due to considerable amounts of secondary metabolites like flavonoids, phenols, steroids etc., determined quantitatively during the phytochemical analysis. Although the dry methanolic extract showed positive results overall during the phytochemical analysis, the fresh aqueous extract of C. ternatea showed the highest antioxidant property with 63.63% scavenging...

In the past years many drug discoveries were investigated to be poorly soluble in aqueous medium. These poorly aqueous soluble drugs include Econazole Nitrate (ECZN) having high permeability. ECZN is an effective, potent anti-fungal drug used to cure large range of fungus. Oral administration of ECZN causes gastrointestinal irritation. To overcome or avoid the “first pass metabolism” and to optimise the drug concentration at the infected site of action topical gel was formulated, topical gels have better tendency to convey the drug via skin as compared to ointment, because gels are non-greasy and comfortable for application. To improve the solubility of ECZN in aqueous medium, Co-crystal technique was established to be a boon to the pharmaceutical industry. Crystalline structure of co-crystals consists of ECZN and Co-former either amino-acid or carboxylic-acid in equimolar ratio and penetration-enhancer was used. Liquid based grinding method used for fabrication of co-crystals. Formulated Co-crystal was incorporated in Carbomer-934 based topical gel. Characteristic peak was determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, the large number of particle size was...

Chrysanthemum morifolium is commonly known as chrysanthemum. It has been widely used in traditional medicine due to its various therapeutic effects. Past studies have shown that chrysanthemum extracts possess significant anticancer activity against breast, prostate, and colon cancer cells. The active compounds in chrysanthemum extracts such as flavonoids, sesquiterpenes, and triterpenoids have been found to induce apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells, inhibit cell proliferation thus prevent cancer cell migration and invasion. Furthermore, chrysanthemum extracts have also been reported to enhance the efficacy of conventional chemotherapy and reduce its side effects. Based on the previous studies the present research has been aimed to determine the anticancer activity of petals of Chrysanthemum morifolium against Hep G2 liver cancer cells by evaluating the cytotoxic potential by MTT assay ((3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5- diphenyltetrazolium bromide) tetrazolium reduction assay), the study of apoptosis mechanism and cell cycle analysis by flow cytometry to understand the cell cycle changes in liver cancer cells when compared with Doxorubicin. The results obtained have demonstrated a prominent anticancer activity of...
