The studies on the constituents of aerial parts of Stellaria media Linn. (Caryophyllaceae) have led to the isolation and characterization of three new compounds ─ (1), (2), and (3). Structure elucidation of the new compounds was carried out using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, Mass spectrometry, together with other complementary techniques (UV and IR). The major findings of the study include: Compound 1 was separated as a white amorphous solid from petroleum ether extract of S. media, Methanol extract of S. media was subjected to bioactivity-guided fractionation, and Compounds 2 and 3 were isolated, and characterized by different spectral studies. The interpretation of the three compounds include: compound 1 interpreted as 2, 4, 5, 7-tetramethyloctane, compound 2 as – 6-methyl heptyl-3′-hydroxy-2′-methyl propanoate; and compound 3 as – 2, 2,...

The RP-HPLC separation was carried out by reverse phase chromatography on XTerra column C18 (4.6 × 150mm, 3.5 mm Make: ACE) or equivalent with a mobile phase composed Sodium Dihydrogen Ortho Phosphate and the pH has been adjusted to 2.5 by Orthophosporic Acid & Acetonitrile in the ratio of 30:70 v/v in isocratic mode at a flow rate of 1.2 ml/min. The run time was maintained for 8 mins. The detection was monitored at 236nm. The Accuracy was calculated, and the % Recovery was found 98.4%- 101.8% for the drug Ibuprofen & 98.4%-100.5% for the drug Famotidine respectively, and reproducibility was found to be satisfactory. The calibration curve for Ibuprofen was linear from 100 to 200ppm for the drug Ibuprofen & 3.32-6.65 ppm for the drug Famotidine, respectively. The inter-day and intra-day precision were found to be within limits. The proposed method has adequate sensitivity, reproducibility, and specificity for the determination of Ibuprofen & Famotidine in bulk and its tablet dosage forms. The limit of detection and limit of...

In the present investigation, the bioefficacy of an indigenous plant was investigated with special reference to its antioxidant potential. Antioxidant effects of Methanolic, Chloroform and Ethyl acetate extracts of the leaves of Premna corymbosa Rottl. (family Verbenaceae) were tested based on DPPH (1, 1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl), phosphomolybdenium assay, superoxide radical scavenging activity, and metal chelating activity. Results about the present investigation indicate that the methanol extract of the P. corymbosa showed strong antioxidant activities than the other solvent extracts. This study has made it clear that Premna corymbosa is an effective antioxidant. Such extracts could be more widely used in developing countries for the prevention and treatment of cancer. These extracts may be considered as good sources for drug...

Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted disease. Over 100 million men and women worldwide are infected with Chlamydia at any point in time. The aim of this study to detect the presence of C. trachomatis antibodies and antigen among women on the reproductive age and to study the relationship between the presence of C. trachomatis and age, abortion and ectopic pregnancy. Five hundred women classify into three hundred pregnant women with a gestational age between 12 and 36 weeks and two hundred nonpregnant women. Two blood samples collected individually in two different containers, one EDTA container for PCR technique and plane container for ELISA testing during the period June 2011 to August 2013. Thirty-one samples (6.2%) were positive for C. trachomtis IgG only, while 8 samples (1.6%) were positive for both IgM and IgG. Out of 31 samples, 25 samples (5%) were positive by using the PCR technique. The results revealed statistically a significant relationship between PCR and previous abortion and ectopic pregnancy with P value,...
