A major susceptibility indicator for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases is obesity-related insulin resistance. Vascular endothelial cells strongly express the coreceptors for members of the transforming growth factor (TGF) superfamily, endocan and endoglin. Examining endocan and endoglin as potential indicators of cardiovascular complications in HFD rats with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus is the goal. The following four groups; normal diet-HFD, normal diet-STZ, and HFD-STZ were each comprised of eight wistar rats. Both types of type 2 DM groups had significantly higher levels of plasma glucose, insulin, glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c), and homeostatic model assessment (HOMA-IR) when compared to the control group (P <0.001). Comparing the HFD and HFDSTZ groups to the STZ and control Normal Diet groups, respectively, the serum lipid patterns in the HFD and HFD-STZ groups were drastically different levels were seen in comparison to the control group in all groups, but the HFD STZ- group had higher percentage change values. Both the HFD-STZ and the normal diet STZ groups had significantly higher levels of...

Background: Epilepsy is a common and chronic neurological disorder. The prevalence of drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) is reported as 25-30% among epileptic patients. So, there is a need of drugs for resistant epilepsy. Objective: To assess the effectiveness and tolerability of Lacosamide (LCM) as an add-on therapy in patients with Drug-Resistant Epilepsy in our patient population. Methods and Material: A total of 43 patients with Drug Resistant Epilepsy were screened, and 32 were included in the study based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and Lacosamide was added as an add-on therapy, and the patients were prospectively followed up for a minimum 3 months. Out of 32 patients, 25 had focal and the remaining 7 were having generalized epilepsy. The Lacosamide dosage used was between 4 – 12mg/kg/day. Seizure frequency, adverse effects, and tolerability were noted in the study participants. Results: Two patients lost follow-up. Hence 30 patients were taken for intension to treat analysis. Out of 30 patients with DRE, 11(36.6%), 25(83.3%) had seizure reduction of more than 90%, 50%...

A very tiny non-coding RNA molecule with a length of 20 to 24 nucleotides, called microRNAs or miRNAs. They control gene expression by targeting mRNAs with sequence-specificity. Depending on the degree of complementarity with the target mRNA sequences, this might result in translational repression or mRNA destruction. They are very crucial for controlling growth and development in plants. Researchers also agreed with the point that miRNAs are responsive to stress in plants. Growing in tropical and subtropical estuaries, mangrove is a very significant ecosystem both environmentally and commercially. But several natural processes, like sea level rise, salinity rise, and global warming, are disastrous for this flora, and some species are disappearing at a startling rate. Studying the function of these miRNAs in controlling mangrove homeostasis in that situation would be of utmost significance. In the most recent research, we discovered three miRNAs: ph-miR10630, ph-miR11471, and ph-miR10341 in Phoenix sp, that react to abiotic stress. This finding unmistakably indicates that miRNAs play a regulatory function in preserving cellular homeostasis. When...

Background: Evidence based medicine (EBM) integrates the best available data from clinical research into clinical practice. Residents (PGs & CRRIs) are at the frontiers of healthcare who are still struggling to adapt the paradigm shift in the practice of medicine. This study aims to explore the knowledge and attitude of EBM among residents in a tertiary teaching hospital. Materials and Methods: After IEC approval, this cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted among PGs and CRRIs in Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi institute of medical sciences & Research for 3 months. All the 81 CRRIs and 51 PGs were enrolled. Written informed consent was obtained. The pre-validated, 20 questionnaires, designed based on McColl questionnaire has been used to obtain information about the knowledge (10 questions) and attitude (10 questions) of EBM. SPSS 21.0 was used for data analysis Results: Out of 132 participants, 63.81% had formal EBM training while, 21.21 % had no previous exposure. Regarding the knowledge of some commonly used technical terms in EBM, 84.31% (43) of PGs and 11.11% (9) of...

Introduction: Preeclampsia (PE) is a common pregnancy-related hypertensive disorder that may result from abnormal placental development and is a major threat to the mother’s and foetus’s life. Methods: Placental miRNAs (miRNAs) profile was investigated using next-generation sequencing for the identification of potential biomarkers playing a role in aberrant placental development and to understand the pathophysiology(space between ‘the’ and ‘pathophysiology’) of PE. Placental tissues were collected from three patient groups (Control [n = 30], Early Onset of Preeclampsia (EOPE) [n = 30], and Late Onset of Preeclampsia (LOPE) [n = 30]) and performed miRNA profilingby Illumina sequencing, downstream analysis for identification, quantification and expression profiling is done by the quantifier.pl, script, and miRDeep2.pl, script. Results: Sequence analysis showed novel miRNAs that were disease-specific and common among all studied groups, suggesting the underlying placental pathologies in EOPE and LOPE. The real-time PCR analysis of 3 miRNAs (miR4743-5p, miR149-5p, and miR331-5p) was done, and observed differential expression in all three patient groups. MiRNA4743-5p was found to be significantly expressed EOPE when compared to control...
