Simvastatin, a lipid-lowering agent, belongs class-II drug of BCS. It has a short biological half-life (3hr), and high first-pass metabolism. The target of the present study was to prepare the microbeads of Simvastatin to provide control release of the drug with enhanced bioavailability through sustained release. The method adopted to prepare Simvastatin loaded microbeads was by the ionic gelation method using a mixture of natural polymers like sodium alginate and aloe vera (1:1). Different crosslinking agents like BaCl₂, FeCl₃, ZnCl₂ and CaCl₂ formulated microbeads. The microbeads were spherical, free-flowing with uniformity in drug content and high drug encapsulation efficiency. The swelling and drug release behavior correlate with the crosslinking agent used to prepare microbeads. The FTIR analysis of the drug, polymers, and the optimized formulation confirmed the compatibility of the drug with the polymers. The DSC studies indicated no interaction between the drug and polymer in the microbeads. Formulation FB-1 showed the extended drug release of more than 6 hours. The novelty of a recent study assures that the...

Human memory can store and recall previously learned information to be applied for the routine purpose. Memory disorders caused by diseases can have an impact on an individual’s quality of life as well as their overall cognitive abilities. Memory disorders are associated with the alteration in cholinergic neurotransmission. The herbal extract of Euphorbia prostrata was found to be used traditionally for the maintenance of memory-related disorders, but the active constituent and its mechanism were still unrevealed. Thus, in the current study, a ligand library was prepared with some potential lead molecules from the plant Euphorbia prostrata and was computationally screened to identify the most potent ligand responsible for the memory enhancement effect as establishing the probable mechanism of action involved in it. Ellagitannin was found to be the most potent ingredient of the Euphorbia prostrata plant, which is supposed to have a memory enhancement effect. Ellagitannin is supposed to exert its therapeutic effect via an agonistic effect on the muscarinic receptor, muscarinic acetylcholine G-protein coupled receptor, N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor, as...

Objectives: The main intention of the current study was to isolate, antimicrobial assay and amylase screening of fungal strains SAPB-15 and SAPB-20 isolated from freshwater fish culturing ponds of Kaikaluru and Mudinepalli villages, South-East coast of Andhra Pradesh, India. Methods: The water samples were collected from different fish culturing aquatic ponds and transported to the laboratory. A serial dilution plate technique was employed for fungi isolation by using Czapek-Dox agar and Sabouraud dextrose agar media. Twenty fungal strains were isolated, all of them were screened for their antimicrobial and amylase production. The potential fungal strains were designated as SAPB-15 and SAPB-20. Partial characterization of the strains was carried out based on cultural, micro-morphological characteristics. Results: The potent fungal strains were provisionally identified as Penicillium species and Aspergillus species. The secondary metabolites produced by strains inhibited several test bacteria and fungi and the strains also exhibited a positive response to amylase production. Conclusion: Aquatic ponds are treasure houses for potential microbes. Among the twenty fungal strains, SAPB-15 and SAPB-20 were...

Medicinal plants contain phytocompounds which are of medicinal value. Scientific evaluation of these compounds that may serve as potential drugs is important in validating the medicinal plants. The leaf extract of the medicinal plant, Isodon ternifolius (D. Don) Kudo was prepared by the maceration method using 80% aqueous methanol as the extraction solvent. The resulting extract was subjected to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The mass spectra of all the major phytocompounds obtained were compared with the standard mass spectra found in the NIST and Wiley libraries, and the phytocompounds were identified. All these identified phytocompounds were characterized biocomputationally with respect to their pharmacologically relevant physicochemical properties, viz. molecular weight, number of heavy atoms, number of heavy aromatic atoms, fraction Csp3, rotatable bond, hydrogen bond acceptor, hydrogen bond donor, molar refractivity and topological polar surface area. Further, drug-likeness, bioavailability, and ADMET properties of each of the phytocompounds were also characterised. The results obtained may be useful in further in-vitro and in-vivo experimentation that might lead to the discovery of drugs...

Indeed, Actinomycetes and Penicillium are microorganisms that live in different ecosystems. Besides, they play important roles in various fields in respect such as agriculture, medicine and the environment. During this study, we were interested in the isolation of two strains namely: Actinomycetes and Penicillium sp. from coconuts and truffle respectively. In addition, the agar cylinder technique demonstrated the antibacterial activity of Penicillium sp. against four pathogenic bacterial strains (S. aureus, E. coli, P. aeruginosa and K. pneumoniae). In virtue of which, the results showed a variability of the diameters of the inhibition zones, thus the most important results were recorded against K. pneumoniae and S. aureus, which produced inhibition zones of 17.50±0.71 mm and 17.00±0.00 mm respectively. In order to struggle against pathogenic fungal strains, the ability of Actinomycete strain to suppress the mycelial growth of 03 pathogenic strains of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. albedinis (EF1, EF2 and EF3) was examined. Hence, the result of the direct confrontation tests on the PDA medium between the Actinomycete strain and these pathogenic...
