A simple, precise and accurate UV spectrophotometric method has been developed and validated for the estimation of Telmisartan in bulk and tablet dosage form. The spectra of Telmisartan in 0.1 N NaOH and distilled water (20:80) shows λmax at 234 nm and estimation was carried out by A (1% 1cm) and by comparison with standard. Calibration graph was found to be linear (r2= 0.999) over the concentration range of 2-10 μg/mL. The proposed method was validated for its accuracy, precision, specificity, ruggedness and robustness. The method can be adopted in its routine...

Investigations into the larvicidal potential of crude extracts of ten Nigerian plants were carried out against the fourth instar larvae of Anopheles gambiae mosquito. The phytochemical screening revealed that both anthraquinones and cyanogenic glycosides were absent in all the plants. However, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, cardiac glycosides, terpenes and flavonoids were either present or absent. The larvicidal activity expressed as % LA was concentration and incubation-time dependent. At 5%w/v (12 and 24h), only Carica papaya and Dacryodes edulis demonstrated remarkable larvicidal activity of 40% and 55% and 50% and 70% respectively while the rest were largely inactive. However, at 10%w/v (12 and 24h), seven of the ten plants namely; Antholeisia djalonensis (60% and 80%), Calotropis procera (50% and 70%), Carica papaya (70% and 80%), Cyathula prostrata (37% and 67%), Dacryodes edulis (90% and 100%), Pycanthus angolensis (45% and 50%) and Viscum album (33% and 73%) gave comparably stronger activities especially after 24h incubation time. This study indicates a potential use of these plants in the control of vector mosquitoes which...

Glossocardia bosvallia DC.1-3 belongs to family Composite which is commonly known as “Patthar-suva or seri” in Hindi. It is found almost throughout in India and Deccan Peninsula. It is a small annual herb, 10-20 cm tall. The tribal inhabitants of western Maharashtra use a decoction of the plant as febrifuge. It has a bitter taste and fennel like odor. Besides serving as a medicinal plant Pithari plant is also used in culinary purposes. In the present paper, we report the isolation and structural elucidation of a new allelochemical 5,6,7,4′, tetrahydroxy 3-methoxy flavone -7-O-b-D xylopyranosyl (1→4)-O-b-D- glucopyranoside (A) which showed antiviral activity , alongwith two known compounds 6, 4΄-dimethoxy-5, 7-dihydroxy-flavone (B) and Isoorientin (C) from methanolic extract of the stems of this...

Milk is considered as a highly nutritious and valuable human food, consumed by the people in a variety of different products. The present work is an effort to have a survey of number of bacteria present in different milk samples viz., Raw, Boiled, Pasteurized and Skimmed milk collected from local market of Haridwar and its adjoining areas by serial dilution method and the quality of milk assessed by MBRT. The highest mean count was detected in raw milk having 211±0.8 cfu/ml. Among the four types, boiled milk appeared as of best quality. The major microbial contaminants were found to be Bacillus sp, Staphylococcus sp, Streptococcus sp, E. coli and Micrococcus sp. During the present investigation the antibiotic sensitivity test was also performed against all the five genera isolated. It was found that inhibition zone of Chloramphenicol and Ofloxacin was maximum against Streptococcus sp. (24 mm) and Staphylococcus sp....

The main purpose of the present study was to develop matrix moderated transdermal patches of Pioglitazone HCl using various ratios of Ficus carica fruit mucilage. Physical parameters such as moisture content, moisture uptake, tensile strength, elongation and folding endurance were evaluated. The matrix type transdermal patches were prepared using Pioglitazone HCl with Ficus carica fruit mucilage by the solvent evaporation technique. The interactions between Pioglitazone Hcl and Ficus carica fruit mucilage and Pioglitazone HCl were performed. The transdermal patches were subjected to various physicochemical parameters like mechanical properties, permeation studies and skin irritation studies were performed. The prepared patches possessed satisfactory preformulary and formulary characteristics. In vitro permeation studies were performed using a Keshary-Chien diffusion cell across hairless Albino rat skin. The nonionic surfactants Span 80, Glycerin, Propylene glycol in the formulation played a key role as permeability enhancers. The patches were found to seemingly free of potentially hazardous skin irritation. The experimental result shows that the release of drug from the patch was delayed in controlled manner as...
