Seeds of Simmondsia chinensis were extracted with pet ether, benzene, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol and distilled water for evaluating its antimicrobial activity and phytochemical analysis. The purpose of screening is to justify, authenticate the use of Indian Medicinal plants in ethnomedicinal or folklore as traditional treasure to cure various ailments. In present investigations attempts were made to screen the Indian Medicinal Plants as antibiotics. The extracts were tested against seven bacteria and three fungi through disc diffusion assay where standard tetracycline and mycostatin (for bacteria and fungi, respectively) were used. The results showed that all the extracts possess good antimicrobial activity against selected test bacteria and fungi. The preset results therefore offer a scientific basis for traditional use of the various extracts of Simmondsia chinensis. Antimicrobial activity of ethanol and aqueous extracts of Parinari curatellifolia (stem) were tested against five dental carries causing bacteria and three fungi strains by agar diffusion method. The crude extracts showed a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity inhibiting the five strains of bacteria and the three fungi. The extracts were most effective against Aspergilusflavus, followed by Streptococcus mutans and Staphylococcus aureus respectively. S. mutans and S. aureus were the only microorganisms that showed zone of inhibition in all the various concentrations of the ethanol extract of P. curatelifolia. The use of medicinal plants and preparations derived from them as dietary supplements, nutraceuticals, functional foods and herbal medicinal products has become more widely accepted in developing countries. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the adverse effects of these plants and their preparations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the safety of the methanol extracts Plumeria acuminata (MEPA) and Galega purpurea (MEGP) by single the long-term oral administration in mice. The study of chronic toxicity was determined by oral feeding male mice daily with the MEPA and MEGP at the dose of 300, 600 and 1,200 mg/kg body weight continuously for 270 days. The results of chronic toxicity showed no abnormalities in the test groups as compared to the controls. Hematological and blood chemical values in treated groups were normal in comparison with the control group. The present research work was aimed at the enhancement of solubility of Candesartan by Self Emulsifying Drug Delivery Systems (SEDDS). Candesartan is a BCS class II drug having low aqueous solubility and high permeability; hence its bioavailability is solubility rate limited. The saturated solubility of Candesartan in various oils and surfactants was determined. The excipients were screened and selected showing maximum solubility and compatibility for Candesartan. SEDDS formulations of Candesartan were developed using different Oils, Surfactants and Co-Surfactant combinations. Pseudoternary phase diagrams were constructed using Triplot V 4.1.2 software and applying Pseudoternary phase diagrams, microemulsification area was evaluated. Formulations were prepared based on phase diagrams using various proportions of oil, surfactants and co-surfactants. The formulations were screened visually for stability and phase separation. A normal phase high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) method has been developed and validated for simultaneous quantitative determination of two flavonoids viz. rutin and isoquercitrin from dried leaf powder of Jasminum sambac Ait. The analysis was performed on TLC aluminum plates precoated with silica gel 60F254. Linear ascending development was carried out in a twin-trough glass chamber saturated with mobile phase comprised of ethyl acetate: methanol: formic acid (10.0:2.0:1.0 v/v/v) at room temperature 25±2ºC. The densitometric scanning was done at λ=366nm for both the components in reflectance/absorbance mode. The detector response was linear for concentrations ranging from 0.20µg/band to 0.65µg/band and 0.30µg/band to 1.2µg/band for rutin and isoquercitrin respectively with correlation coefficient of 0.999 for both the components.
