Pineapple or ‘Ananas,’ is a tropical fruit that belongs to the Bromeliaceae family. The stem and fruit of this plant are utilized in conventional and folk medicine for treating various illnesses. In addition to calcium, iron, potassium, pineapples are a rich source of vitamin C, B and A. This study involves determinations various standardization specifications for the plant Ananas comosus (L.) Merr such as morphological characteristics, microscopic examinations, physiochemical parameters, and phytochemical screening for significant groups of compounds and other WHO recommended parameters for standardization. A morphology study was done on the fruit and stem portion of the plant. A microscopy study indicated the presence of lignified fibers, ovaries and sepals. The elemental analysis showed the presence of lead, Arsenic, Iron, Zinc, Cadmium, Magnesium, Copper, and Mercury and all the elements are within limits. The phytochemical profile revealed saponins, glycosides, phenols, flavonoids, anthraquinone steroids, tannins, carbohydrates, and terpenoids. The phenolic content was determined by using the Folin-Ciocteau method and found to be highest in ethanolic extract of fruit (40.02 mg...

Mucormycetes are a group of fungi causing a serious infection called mucormycosis. These fungi live throughout the environment, particularly in soil than in the air. This fungus is severely spread among people who have weakened immune systems; breathing in these spores can cause severe infection in the lungs or sinuses, which can spread easily to other parts of the body. In the present work, Rhizopus species was isolated from soil and antifungal activity of different solvent extracts of young leaves of Carica papaya (Papaya), Citrus limon (lemon), Psidium guajava (guava) and Acalypha indica (Indian nettle) were tested against Rhizopus species using the disc diffusion method. It was observed that all four plant leaves exhibit positive activity against Rhizopus species. Ethanolic extract of Carica papaya leaves (75mg/ml) showed more potency with an inhibition zone of 20 ± 0.2 mm. Aqueous extracts (25mg/ml) of Acalypha indica leaves (7±0.2 mm) showed lowest zone of inhibition found in against Rhizopus species. Antifungal activity of aqueous, ethanol, and chloroform extracts of Citrus limon leaves...

Due to plentiful wild plant diversity, poor road conditions to connect modern medical facilities, and age-old folk knowledge on medicinal plants, the tribal communities of Dhemaji District, Assam, India, still practice traditional plant-based therapy in the management of primary healthcare. The present investigation aims to represent the ethnobotanical knowledge of different ethnic community peoples of the Nilakh- Sripani area, a fringe area laying the Assam- Arunachal border. The ethnobotanical field survey (2018- 2020) was carried out based on formal and informal semi-structured questionnaires with village headmen, traditional healers, and well-educated persons from 11 villages belonging to Nilakh and Sripanigaon panchayat. Analysis of the demographic profile of informants, local names of plants, parts used, used in ailments, preparation and route of administration was investigated during the survey. The documented data were also quantitatively analyzed by using standard ethnobotanical parameters like Use Value (UV), Fidelity Level (FL) and Informant Consensus Factor (ICF). A total of 102 plant species belonging to 57 families were recorded. During the time of the study, 33...

Rett Syndrome is an extremely rare, post-natal, and serious genetic neurodevelopmental syndrome that occurs mostly in female children. It occurs due to the mutations in the MeCP2 gene of the X chromosome. Children with Rett syndrome are usually diagnosed within 24 months of their age. The mutation takes place on the S421 site of the MeCP2 gene. The information for coding MeCP2 protein is obtained from the MeCP2 gene. This protein helps to silence or turn off the other genes. Thus, the mutation of the MeCP2 gene can disrupt the other genes and may interfere with the normal development of the Central Nervous System. The signs and symptoms of Rett syndrome may include slowed growth, brain growth slows after birth, loss of normal movement and coordination, loss of communication abilities, abnormal hand movements, unusual eye movements, breathing problems, irritability, crying, and other abnormal behaviors. There are 3 types of clinical criteria for the diagnosis of Rett syndrome. They are the main criteria, supportive criteria, and exclusion criteria. The doctor...

Quercetin (3, 3ʹ, 4ʹ, 5, 7-pentahydroxyl-flavone) is a flavonol, belonging to the class of plant secondary metabolites known as flavonoids. Quercetin and its derivatives have various beneficial effects against ailments like inflammation, oxidative stress, and cancer. The present research work aimed to prepare and characterize quercetin’s solid dispersion (SD) to enhance solubility and thereby dissolution profile and further incorporate it into oral wafers. The solvent evaporation method was used to prepare solid dispersions using the polymer polyethylene glycol 6000 and pluronic F127. The drug and polymers were compatible, as evident from the FTIR data. The optimized batch was further evaluated by FTIR, DSC, PXRD & SEM. Wafers were prepared by solvent casting method using HPMC (5 & 15 cps), PVA, and plasticizer PEG (200,400) and propylene glycol. Quercitin-loaded SD was added to the polymer solution during casting. Highest drug release of 82.96 ± 1.76 % in 240 min was obtained with a drug to carrier ratio (1:1.5). It followed Higuchi’s model when the amount of solvent was 20 ml....
