In recent years, most researchers and interesting ones in the field of microbial biofilm documented that nanoparticles like silver, metal ions play a significant role in the biofilm approach. Here i would like to draw your attention to the modern technique in biofilm and the role of nanotechnology in combating medical resistant microbial infection. It is now realized that most bacterially derived sessile communities are capable of forming irreversible biofilms on surfaces and interfaces by embedding themselves deep in a self-generated polymeric matrix. Most of the fungal species that form biofilms do so in a similar manner; Candida and Aspergillus are fungal species of particular interest. The mechanism of biofilm formation depends on environmental stimuli and a series of genetic and phenotypic changes in planktonic cells. To date, five different stages have been suggested during biofilm development, namely, (i) reversible-irreversible adherence, (ii) microcolony formation, (iii) 3D biofilm formation, (iv) maturation, and (v) dissemination. It is believed nanotechnology-based approaches will provide promising advancements to prevent drug-resistant biofilm infections of medical...

In the proposed research paper, a simple, accurate, and precise colorimetric method has been developed for the estimation of doxycycline in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage forms. The proposed method utilizes a smartphone camera and an application instead of the UV spectrophotometer for the measurement of color intensity. This colorimetric method was found to be linear in the range of 10µg/ml to 50µg/ml concentration, with an r2 value of 0.9968. These results have been then compared with a highly selective difference spectroscopic method developed and validated by us using the principles of uncertainty. When we report the result of a measurement, it becomes obligatory that some quantitative indications of the quality of the results should also be given, which will aid in the assessment of the reliability of the results and, in turn, the method which was used to obtain those results. Without such an indication, the measurement results may not be compared, either amongst themselves or with the reference standard values. Hence, the uncertainty appraisal becomes essential to express...

Background: Majoon hajrul yahood is a polyherbomineral formulation commonly used in the Unani system of medicine for the management of urolithiasis. In this study safety of a hydroalcoholic extract of majoon hajrul yahood was evaluate in Wistar rats. Materials and Methods: The hydroalcoholic extract of the formulation were tested for acute and sub-acute toxicity study. The single-dose (300, 2000, and 5000 mg/kg) of the extract was administered orally to female rats. In the subacute study, the extract was given at doses of 1/5, 1/10, and 1/15 mg/kg (1000, 500, and 333.33 mg/kg) of maximum dose (5000 mg/kg) of acute toxicity study during 28 days orally. Mortality, changes in body weight and food consumption, organ weights, biochemical, hematological, and histopathology of the organs were performed. Results: In the acute study, the extract was classified as safe, according to the OECD guide in category 5. In the present study, results revealed that subacute treatment with test extract, there is no changes in biochemical, hematological, and histological changes in the tissues. Conclusion:...

Amla, Arjuna, Gudmar, Guduchi, and Ginger have been usually used in the traditional system of medicine for the treatment of diabetes. The aim of the present study to evaluate antihyperglycemic activity of polyherbal and allopolyherbal formulation on Streptozotocin-Nicotinamide (STZ-NA) induced type-2 diabetes rats. All the extracts of herbs used for the present study were obtained by supercritical fluid extraction. The Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and anti-hyperglycemic activities were performed on STZ-NA-induced diabetic rats. The effects of metformin, PHF, and allopolyherbal formulation (APHF) on plasma insulin, hemoglobin, liver glycogen, and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) were analyzed. Statistical analysis was done by using one-way ANOVA followed by Dunnett’s multiple comparison tests. The OGTT of metformin, PHF, and APHF showed increased glucose tolerance. Single-dose anti-hyperglycemic activity of metformin, PHF, and APHF showed a significant (P<0.01) decrease in blood glucose level (BGL) in diabetic rats at 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th h. Multiple doses anti-hyperglycemic activity of metformin, PHF, and APHF showed significantly (P<0.01) reduction of BGL in diabetic rats after 14th, 21st,...

Background: Serum total bilirubin (SBT) and serum uric acid (SUA) have anti-oxidant properties. SBT and SUA may be potential biomarkers for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its complications. Aim: It is aimed to evaluate the level of STB and SUA in T2DM. Materials and Methods: In this case-control study, a total of 124 subjects (62 T2DM cases and 62 age and gender-matched controls) were recruited between the age group of 30-55 years. Fasting blood sugar (FBS), STB, SUA, Malondialdehyde (MDA), and Superoxide dismutase (SOD) were estimated. All the data were tested at a 5% level of significance. Results: The mean level of SUA was significantly higher in cases than controls (P=0.009). However, the mean level of STB was not found statistically significant in cases than controls (P=0.08). The mean level of MDA was found significantly elevated in cases than controls (P<0.001). In addition, the mean of SOD activity was found significantly low in cases than controls (P<0.001). A significant negative correlation was found between age and SOD activity...
