Modern breakthroughs in dentistry have created the opportunity for people to maintain a functional dentition for lifetime. Hemisection is a conservative approach of maintaining tooth. This is an endodontic treatment that involves removing one or more roots as well as the current crown structure in order to promote tooth retention and address nonfunctional dental roots that cannot be maintained. As they are prone to fracture it is critical to replace them using an extracoronal restoration. A 35-year-old male patient complaint of mild intermittent pain in relation to the lower left back tooth region since 15 days. The teeth were tender to percussion. A diagnosis of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis with symptomatic apical abscess with a treatment plan of hemisection in relation to #36 was made. 18 months clinical and radiographic follow-up depicts adequate radiographic healing, high lighting in achieving retention of mesial half of tooth structure and its supporting...

An evergreen semiparasitic plant belonging to the Loranthaceae family, Dendrophthoe falcata (L.f.) Ettingsh is common throughout India and feeds on a variety of host species. The potential of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) produced by D. falcata-mediated processes is still unknown, despite the known bioactivity of D. falcata extracts. The present investigation examines the phytochemical profile of leaf extracts from D. falcata, their function in the synthesis of AgNPs, and the AgNPs’ bioactivity. The existence of tannins, terpenoids, alkaloids, and flavonoids was verified by phytochemical analysis. AgNPs were synthesized and characterized using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, FTIR, SEM, TEM, and XRD, confirming their structural integrity and stability. The DPPH radical scavenging assay revealed AgNPs’ robust antioxidant properties by showing that their capacity increased proportionately with incubation time and that their purple coloring significantly decreased. Also, AgNPs proved robust antibacterial activity, comparable to positive controls against E. coli, a gram-negative bacterium. They showed a notable inhibition zone against gram-positive bacteria at a 300 μl concentration. Further, AgNPs inhibited S. aureus, albeit only at higher...

Introduction: The increase in drug consumption in India has resulted in significant health hazards due to improper consumption, storage, and disposal practices among the general population. This study aims to evaluate the awareness and practices of medical students regarding the consumption, storage, and disposal of unused and leftover medications at their homes. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire-based cross-sectional survey was conducted over three months at a tertiary care teaching hospital in Southern Rajasthan. The study included 258 MBBS students who had voluntarily responded to a survey consisting of 15 questions. The survey assessed demographics, medication storage and use, disposal practices, adverse drug effects, and self-medication habits. Data were analysed in MS Excel as frequency and percentages. Results: Out of 400 medical students approached, 258 (64.5%) responded. Among them, 49.61% always stored medicines at home, mainly painkillers (82.23%) and antibiotics (74.13%). While 87.2% routinely checked expiry dates before consumption, 75.19% disposed of unused/leftover medicines in the trash. Self-medication was practiced by 12.4% of students, with nausea and vomiting being the...

Background: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a severe psychiatric illness characterized by persistent sadness, loss of interest, lack of energy, disturbed sleep and suicidality with lifetime prevalence rate for MDD is 16.2%. Treatment options for depression include medication, primarily antidepressants, and psychotherapy. Method: A prospective observational questionaire based study was conducted in psychiatric department of VIMSAR, Burla taking 50 patients diagnosed with MDD for a period of 24months. Effect on QOL was evaluated using WHOQOL (BREF) Questionairre, CGI-S, CGI-I and MADRAS scores. Results: Dosulepin/Dothiepin (TCA) was most frequently prescribed antidepressant followed by escitalopram (SSRI). The efficacy of SSRIs is equivalent to that of TCAs. There was no significant difference among the four antidepressants with regard to reductions in the total scores on CGI-S, CGI-I and MADRS scales. Conclusion: Antidepressants used for therapy of MDD in our study were effective in QOL improvement, better compliance on long term basis except for side effect...

Background: Male infertility is a significant, yet often overlooked, contributor to couple infertility, particularly in developing countries. Social stigma, cultural barriers, and lack of comprehensive data on male infertility further exacerbate the issue, making it challenging to address effectively. Aims and Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the current clinical practices, diagnostic approaches, and management strategies for male infertility among gynecologists in India. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive survey was conducted during the 19th Annual Conference of the Indian Fertility Society (IFS), FERTIVISION-2023. A total of 1039 gynecologists from various regions of India participated. The survey comprised 11 key questions focusing on primary and secondary causes of male infertility, diagnostic practices, semen analysis, and management strategies including the use of antioxidants, clomiphene, and varicocele repair. Results: The survey revealed that 43.12% of clinicians reported 10-20% of their male patients had fertility issues. Premature ejaculation (51.11%) and erectile dysfunction (34.55%) were the most common sexual dysfunctions observed. Semen analysis was routinely performed by 16.65% of respondents, and 54.09% referred patients...
