The pigment has acquired the greatest importance because of its excellent color value. The potential use of various carbon sources as microbial pigments for textile coloration. Flowers, leaves, fruits, vegetables, and tubers are the rich source of the secondary metabolites. In the current study, the use of microbial extract isolated from a fermentation process from 14 varieties by using Penicillium purpurogenum as a natural dye was studied. The potentiality of the dye extract was classified by dyeing with 100% cotton under suitable conditions. The dye ability, colorfastness (wash, light, rubbing) and Munsell color value, hue, L, a, b of dyed liquids were studied by using computer color matching software were studied. The color of the dye was not affected by washing. The results reveal that Hibiscus rosa sinensis, Ixora coccinea and Nerium oleander having highest K/S values. It could be seen that P. purpurogenum responded by producing high concentrations of pigment from Tagetes patula flower (crude) than the other combinations. It is to their ability for the formation of...

Fixed-dose combinations are defined as a combination of two or more active ingredients in a fixed ratio of doses. Recently fixed-dose combinations are more rapidly marketed; the available combinations in the market include both rational and irrational. The use of irrational fixed-dose combinations has resulted in severe adverse drug reactions and a reduction in patient quality of life. The main objective of this study was to assess the prescribing patterns and rationality of fixed-dose combinations in a tertiary care teaching hospital. A prospective and observational study was conducted in 249 inpatients after taking written consent from those who meet study criteria in the Medicine and Pediatric department for a period of 6 months. In this study, the combinations of drugs were equally distributed to both females and males patients (50%), most patients were in the age group of 70-79 (20%). A total of 355 combinations of drugs were used belonging to 48 different combinations. The most commonly prescribed combinations were Aspirin + Atorvastatin (13%) and Tramadol + Acetaminophen (12%)....

Ciprofloxacin is a class of broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent and produces a synergistic effect in combination with Curcumin. In the present research work, we have developed a new analytical method for the determination of Ciprofloxacin and Curcumin in its bulk powder. The UV-spectrophotometric method was developed by utilizing a solvent system composed of methanol: water (50:50 v/v). Ciprofloxacin and Curcumin showed maximum absorbance wavelength at 275 nm and 430 nm respectively. The method was optimized and validated in terms of specificity, selectivity, linear range, precision, robustness, ruggedness, reproducibility and solutions stability as per ICH guidelines. Analytes showed a linear response between the concentration ranges of 1-6 µg/mL. This method was found to be precise, robust, rugged and reproducible with % RSD values less than 2%. Hence, a newly developed, optimized and validated UV-Spectrophotometric method was found to be simple, selective, specific, linear, precise, robust, rugged, reproducible and economical and can be used for simultaneous determination of Ciprofloxacin and Curcumin in bulk drug...

Periodontitis is a group of inflammatory pathological conditions involving periodontal ligaments and supporting alveolar bone which may result in the degeneration of supporting structures of teeth ultimately leading to tooth loss. Present research work is focused on the formulation, optimization and evaluation of chitosan microspheres and chitosan- hydroxyapatite biocomposite microspheres to have controlled release of herbal drug quercetin, of which anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties are well proven. Mucoadhesive chitosan would retain the drug-loaded microspheres at the affected site and hydroxyapatite used in its combination would improve mechanical strength, osteoconductivity and sustain the release of the drug. Microspheres were formulated by solvent-free precipitation technique using the alkaline solution (NaOH solution). These microspheres were optimized using 32 factorial design using design expert software. Optimized chitosan microspheres (QC5) and chitosan-hydroxyapatite microspheres (QCH5) were characterized for surface morphology by SEM and were found to be spherical with a particle size of 5.56 µm and 7.22 µm and entrapment efficiency of 80.74 and 82.97% respectively. The entrapment of drug in microspheres was...

A sensitive and robust gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector method was developed for the quantification of epichlorohydrin in the linezolid drug substance and validated using guidelines as mentioned in ICH Q2 (R1). Epichlorohydrin was separated on CP-Volamine stationary phase (length 60 m, diameter 0.32 mm, particle size 5 µ) in linear thermal programming using dichloromethane as a diluent, at a constant flow rate of 2 ml/min. Column oven temperature maintained initiated at 90 ºC and raised to temperature 230 ºC with run time 25 min. Epichlorohydrin showed linearity from 5.12 ppm to 30 ppm concentration range. The method has satisfactory precision and accuracy. Limit of detection and limit of quantification were found as 2.03 ppm and 5.12 ppm, respectively. The epichlorohydrin peak has been well resolved and its specificity has been demonstrated. The method developed and validated for estimating epichlorohydrin in linezolid drug molecule is easy and simple to adopt in any pharmaceutical...
