Background: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a medical condition occurring in critically ill patients characterized by extensive inflammation in the lungs and associated with several complications. Therefore, the present study aimed to identify the common risk factors associated with ARDS in Hail Region, Northern Saudi Arabia. Methodology: This study investigated retrospectively 68 patients with ARDS clinical presentations during the period from January 2015 to January 2016 in King Khalid Hospital, Hail, Saudi Arabia. Results: Out of 68 patients with ARDS clinical presentations, ARDS was verified in 38/68 (55.9%). Out of 38 ARDS patients, 21/38(55.3%) were males and 17/38 (44.7%) of the 68 studied patients, pneumonia, trauma, H1N1 infection and fibrosis were identified in 50(73.5%), 3(4.4%), 13(19.1%) and 12 (17.6%), respectively. Out of the 38 ARDS patients, 29/38 (76.3%) died. Conclusion: ARDS is common in Hail Region and a common cause of patients to be admitted to specialized intensive care units. Pituranthos chloranthus and Artemisia vulgaris L. are two of the most important aromatic and medicinal species from the Apiaceae and Asteraceae families, respectively. They are traditionally used in certain pathologies in which inflammatory processes are involved. The present study investigates the potential of aqueous extracts of Tunisian P. chloranthus and A. vulgaris as a natural alternative source of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities using in-vitro techniques. The antioxidant activities of aqueous extracts were evaluated through several assays: capacity for scavenging free radicals (ABTS, DPPH, hydroxyl, superoxide, nitric oxide); and total antioxidant capacity by ferric reducing power activity and inhibition of lipid peroxidation by thiobarbituric acid reactive species (TBARS) method. The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated through the lipoxygenase (LOX) inhibitory activity. Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic which is very effective against staphylococci, streptococci and Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection. Because of its high effectiveness against MRSA infection, it is frequently used in clinical practice for decolonization of MRSA. Due to the increased use of mupirocin, increased resistance rates have been reported. Essential oil is a natural antimicrobial agent which kills the bacteria without promoting the acquisition of resistance. Hence, the combination of mupirocin with essential oils would be an ideal solution for preventing mupirocin resistance. Therefore, in this study we have investigated the antibacterial effect of mupirocin in combination with 3 essential oils (cinnamon, eugenol, and eucalyptus). Zone of inhibition test using disk diffusion method and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) test using broth dilution method was carried out to assess the antibacterial activity against S. aureus. Objective: Formulation and development of polymeric microparticles containing murrayanol for better treatment of diabetes mellitus. Methods: Successive solvent extraction of leaves of Murraya koenigii plant was done. The active constituent of leaves that is murrayanol was isolated and identified through HPLC and FTIR. Polymeric microparticles were selected as a carrier system and formulated by the solvent evaporation method. Characterization and performance evaluation of particulate system loaded with herbal plant extract of the Murraya koenigii leaves was done. Results: These results suggest that the polymeric microparticles are not only effective in the rapid attainment of high drug concentration in the body and also maintain the same over a prolonged period of time.
