A sensitive and robust gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector method was developed for the quantification of epichlorohydrin in the linezolid drug substance and validated using guidelines as mentioned in ICH Q2 (R1). Epichlorohydrin was separated on CP-Volamine stationary phase (length 60 m, diameter 0.32 mm, particle size 5 µ) in linear thermal programming using dichloromethane as a diluent, at a constant flow rate of 2 ml/min. Column oven temperature maintained initiated at 90 ºC and raised to temperature 230 ºC with run time 25 min. Epichlorohydrin showed linearity from 5.12 ppm to 30 ppm concentration range. The method has satisfactory precision and accuracy. Limit of detection and limit of quantification were found as 2.03 ppm and 5.12 ppm, respectively. Background: Zingiber officinalis known as ginger, under the family Zingiberaceae, is a popular food spice and occupies an important place in Ayurvedic and traditional medicine. Its rhizome is used as antioxidative, carminative and for chronic diseases. Aims: Study indicated the curative effects of methanolic extract of ginger on severe exercise-induced oxidative damage in vital organs. Materials and Methods: Oxidative stress was established in male rat by forced swimming in an acrylic plastic pool filled with water. The total duration of 8 h per day including rest was allowed for both the treated and untreated forced swimming group of animals. Oxidative stress has been observed by monitoring of SOD, CAT, GST and Px activities along with quantification of TBARS and CD levels in liver, cerebrum, testis, and plasma. Whether the applied dose has toxicity if any, general body weight parameter was assessed. Introduction: Hypertension, is a global public health issue. It is a significant contributor to rising morbidity and mortality because of its associations with cardiovascular, renal and cerebrovascular complications. Given the prevalence and impact of the disease on health care a drug utilization study becomes essential to determine the current drug utilization pattern. Materials and Methods: 127 patients of hypertension coming to the OPD of medicine of King George’s Medical University were enrolled in the study after screening and giving consent. The data from the prescription of the drugs were recorded in pre-specified case record forms and analyzed for drug utilization parameters. Results: The average number of drugs encountered per prescription was 4. Whereas prescriptions with the generic name were 38% and drugs from an essential drug list were found to be 74%. Marine algae are one of the largest producers of biomass in the marine environment. They produce a wide variety of chemically active metabolites in their surroundings, potentially as an aid to protect themselves against the other settling organisms. These seaweeds are an immense source of bioactive molecules for the exploration of novel drugs. The present investigation deals with the screening of phytochemical composition, fatty acid composition and antioxidant activity of the green edible seaweed Caulerpa lentillifera (Family: Caulerpaceae) (TSN: 6973 & APHIA ID: 211475). The seaweed was collected from Mandapam Coast, Tamil Nadu, different solvents were used for the preparation of seaweed extract. The Phytochemical constituents of seaweeds, such as carbohydrate, protein, tannins, phytosterols, glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids, diterpenes, resins and saponins of C. lentillifera were analyzed using standard methods.
